PostTue Aug 17, 10 12:29 pm    Nude beach goers at Rooster rock Reply with quote

I had a very nice, and very long conversation with the Oregon State Parks regional manager this morning about Rooster rock and the demarcation of the nude sun bathing beach. I made the call to inquire about user group conflicts and complaints on file as due to high water level requirements for fish, the only beach left for families is on sand island.

So while I was out kiting this saturday and the western most portion of the beach and my wife and kids were playing in the shallow water, they had to deal with 4-5 naked old men that just had to stay on the west end of the beach.. even though the VAST MAJORITY of nude sunbathers hang out on the east end of the beach. I talked to several parents that day and they all expressed.. "why do they want to hang out down here with all the clothed kiters and families?"

Mr. Price, the regional manager explained that when he has asked them the answer invariably was.. "its my right to be here". He explained that "he can't regulate common courtesy". He explained that if some folks were a little more diplomatic or discreet he wouldn't have to regulate the beach at all, but that is not the case.

He explained that there has been an increasing number of complaints about the nude bathers as user groups have changed in the last decade (kiters), and the high water forces families that want to swim in the water safely to utilize sand island.

I explained that moving the line eastward 100-200 yards would free up plenty of space for non-nude swimmers and avoid my 3yo yelling "penis" and my wife recounting to me at dinner, the inordinately large set of balls she had the misfortune to observe.

Mr. Price ensured me that he has been thinking about again moving the nude beach (it was reconfigured in the 90's) to reflect current usage patterns. I have absolutely nothing against the sunbathers as a group and make no kind of judgments against them. In the scheme of park management, they are simply another, and just like other user groups, they are not that compatible with some other uses.

If you feel like perhaps there should be a portion of the western edge of sand island that nude sunbathing is not permitted sot that conflicts between nude sunbathers and other groups can be avoided, I urge you to send an e-mail to Kevin Price and articulate that you feel so. He can change the limits of the nude beach through a simple management decision but this decision must be supported by public comment. He also expressed that the nudists don't like the beach changed or shrunk.
Kevin can be e-mailed at Kevin.price@state.or.us

We have only experienced a handful of creepy situation on the beach, but if for any reason you or your family ever run into trouble on the beach, you can call the park rangers cell phone at five-0-three 969-8256. His name is Mark Spencer and I have been assured that he responds immediately to threatening or indecent behavior.

Cheers,
PDXMB

Damn, I was really looking forward to towel-less changes out of my wetsuit. Except for that, I don't disagree with your position.

I could have sworn I saw one guy walking around with a chub on saturday. They REALLY didn't appreciate my dad parking his 5th wheel rig near the east stairs... "You can't do that, it's gonna fill up!" They said. "I'll bet it is..." was my dad's reply Cool

changing in the bushes is one thing, milling around back and forth in front of my family with your grotesque ball sack hanging out is another.

Not a huge deal, just thought I would put the e-mail address out there for those that wanted to send an e-mail.

I've seen the photos of the wandering dildo here on the forums, but I have yet to witness any creepy activities first hand. I do kind of wish the American flag dude wouldn't sit up right in the middle of the path so that everyone has to see him. Anyway the second there is a creepy situation with my wife or kid I will surely write or call.

One day I am going to have to kite naked, just to say I did it :O) I promise you though, I will go as far east as I possibly can.

Andy

i don't know all the rules at rooster, but if you go to a clothing optional beach, people without clothes should be expected. if that is a problem, go somewhere else. I personally don't think that the answer is to push the nudists out of way. There are plenty of non-nude beaches in the area, but only two nude beaches, rooster and collins on SI. I definitely don't like the idea of using kiting as the reason since rooster is only kitable a every now and then, but clothing optional all the time.

if this happens then no one can complain when the dog owners push the kiters to the north edge of the sandbar to get a dog park due to changing usage patterns.

I think the root of the problem is that PDX has fuck all for beaches considering the amount of water around.

Really Rooster is the only clean beach around....and lets face it the only reason it stays clean is cuz the water rises ever year sweeping all the trash out to the ocean Evil or Very Mad

So I can see why its a bit disappointing that the only good beach to bring your family also has nudists lurking around.

Not even close to a true statement. Often times Rooster is the ONLY beach East of Sauvies. It's arguably the BEST beach in the area. Get in a boat in Camas & head East in the Spring/early Summer. Go all the way to Bonneville Dam. Count all the sandy beaches you come across. There'll be ONE, Rooster. Do it in late Summer. Count all the sandy beaches you come across accessible without a boat. There'll be TWO, Rooster & Cottonwood. Rooster is like 20 times as big as Cottonwood. At least.

To reserve the largest beach East of Sauvies for the smallest user group makes no sense. I'm not saying there shouldn't be a clothing optional beach there, but it should be restricted to certain areas. There's plenty of room for the clothing phobic to have a great area separate from a family friendly area.

so you're saying theres a beach where kiting naked is totally sweet? and you people want to change that because YOU dont like what the human body looks like? sounds pretty insecure. home valley is 15 minutes past it and has a better beach, better winds, and more children shit. MOVE ON!!!

kite to bend limitations. not make them.

munks,
sorry your wife and kids had 'the experience'. would be nice if we could have a non 'shlog and schlong' area. Dude, why'd you take'em there though? I've met you before, you seem like a cool dude, so no sharpshooting happening here. I'd just take the fam somewhere else, regardless of wind. People have their own preference and i'm cool w/ that, Rooster is a weird place no matter what though.

Hey Nak, what about the 33rd street boat ramp beach?

Monkeyboy, did you finish Sarah's Going Rogue? Maybe a better solution is to create a web site to post pictures of the these guys who insist on being a pest. And when you take their picture say, "Your parole officer is going to love this!"

What right does an old man have to show off cranial unit and marbles? Why is it that we allow anybody to act out odd and curious behaviors at one of the nicest beaches close enough to pdx. to enjoy?
The burden should not be on a family to find an appropriate place to play, but more on the adult male, or female to find a place to nude bath.

I don't get it. I'm all for free speech, constitutional rights, but there are some common sense limits.

Brian, myself, anyone for that matter should have the right to go anywhere and not be assaulted by sacks and worms attached to old men. It's f@#$ gross, it's werid and it scares me to death.

At the very least they, or anyone with this compulsion, should be limited by a law that hinders exposing those less mature eyes.
