The west end of the beach used to have signs that designated that clothing was optional beyond the posts. I had seen a couple of weeks ago that the posts are still in the sand, but no signs are present.
It is not the nudity that disgusts me, but certain persons' actions! A few years ago I went to Rooster with my two boys and their friend. When children come back and tell me that a "man is following them through the woods" and the younger boy (9) tells me he knows what a "blowjob" is because he saw two guys in the bushes "doing-it" makes me sick.
Rooster Rock State Park may be designated a clothing optional area, but that doesn't give them a license to conduct lewd acts in public.

Rooster Rock Beach Cleanup –September 25.
If you would like more information concerning the 9/25 SOLV work event go to http://www.solv.org/volunteers/volunteer_calendar.asp. Simply click on September. The Rooster Rock information is the 22nd event listed. You can register to attend the event at that site.
The park staff always has a work list that includes items in the clothing optional area as well as the clothing required area. Staffers make sure to include all volunteers in areas of the park that they are comfortable working at, provide the tools, garbage bags and supervision. If you choose to wear clothing and would rather not work along side of nudists there will be plenty of areas and work for you.
In May nudists (wearing clothing) and textiles planted over three hundred donated Doug Fir trees in the clothing required portion of the park. In the past textiles have worked quite nicely with nudists in the clothing optional part of the park.
Nudist attire will depend on the weather! Be nice if we could find a type of lotion similar to sunscreen that would keep off the chill and ward off the rain.
This past winter people fishing for sturgeon dominated the lagoon area. I would be very careful in that area of the park due to fishing line and hooks that were left behind. While we have completed litter patrols in that area fishing line and hooks are difficult to locate in the sand.
Nudists are dedicated to reporting inappropriate behaviors, illegal camping, litter, and illegal activities. Inappropriate behaviors are not limited to the clothing optional portion of the park. We can all agree that the behaviors mentioned on this site disgusting. Hopefull we can work together to address the problems.
All I know about kiting is "nothing." I do love seeing the kiters on the beach or in the air and I am excited that another user group has discovered this beautiful park.

| I suppose these same people that complain about nudity at Rooster Rock are the same people that launch boats then go up to sand island and giggle and take pictures of the nudity and complain when they go to Europe and see a bare chested woman walking around the beach. It is skin, people! It is what God gave us. Get over it. We all know there is a section for clothing optional. If these people were wandering up to children and asking them to touch it, I would have no problem assisting in punishment. But, people simply standing around or lying on the sand with not a stitch on where they are allowed to? Get over it. Go to Lewis and Clark near Troutdale. Go to Blue Lake. Go to Viento. Plenty of places to fly kites in the Gorge but only one place to be clothing optional. Let's keep the boundries the same.

Thats not true in the summer on an Easterly. Rooster Rock Rocks! BTW, Sauvie Island is another "optional" area if you haven't ever been.
And, while on the subject, I'm curious whether you actually flew or have seen kites flying on Blue Lake! There aren't exactly great launch sites except for the beach, so, again, where do they launch?
Like you, I don't have a problem with Nudes, and glad I don't have to go to Hawaii or Europe google.

I know things have quieted down on this thread, but I wanted to make sure everyone understood there are no changes planned at Rooster Rock. Our manager there has heard the comments from both sides, and knows there are occasional conflicts, but we're staying the course for now. No one ever said running a park was easy.

I'm a little late on this one. No internet for weeks. Argh! Anyhoo. My first experience at rooster was a little freaky. I don't care if your nude, when I was walking I used my board as a shield and avoided my eyes. The thing I found most disturbing were men laying on matts in full view with an erection as an advertisement to "jump on". Ewww! Nasty hairy looking man, I swear he was half ape. I also witnessed oral sex and anal sex and it was not discreet. Its not like I was watching on purpose, they were just right there going at at it. Again, I say, "ewwww". That is just not right. Since the people's republic of oregon is really a jobs program - they should hire more staff to fine people for public sexual activity. Pushing the nudists east is reasonable. Forrest is correct in regards to how the beach is used. It is for everyone.
Why is it that peoples bodies that should never see daylight, want to expose it? Ewwwww.
PS. My mother was wrong, they are not all the same.

Yeah, Rooster is a GREAT place for family friendly fun. Its terrific to have a park that my taxes pay for to allow all these great people to frolic.
