Good luck with the waves.... and wind the forecast is pretty minimal. The witching hour fore the coast is usually 4pm any earlier than that is for strong forecast days of frontal winds. It is always good to be at the coast however... enjoy ...
I am sure the water is a bit brisk compared to texas, must be why no banana hamacks and bakini babes around.
good days for down winders , take a stab at any maybe waves then keep on truckin..

Well, today's update.... as expected - not so good - . No wind, no waves, but we had a really good nap on the beach! Lots of free food and plenty of time to chat but disappointing not to have any wind.
Here's the official results from yesterday's 5 mile down wind race:
Pro's:
1 - Jessie Richman
2 - Damien Leroy
3 - Jeff Kafka
Amateur's: (separate race 10 minutes after the pro's)
1 - Tony Bolstad
2 - Carol Bolstad
3 - Josh Brady
Don't mean to toot my own horn but we were pretty stoked to come in 1 & 2 yesterday! No separate women's division so Carol beat all of the guys but me! There were around 15 - 17 kiter's in the amateur division and 18 or 19 in the pro's.
Spent some time hanging out with Will, Liz, Reed and Josh Brady the last two days and talking with Ken Lucas and some of the guys from the Waddel Creek area. Everyone is super nice and mostly everyone is enjoying the event despite the lack of wind. I was really hoping to see the Caution guys in action in the waves. Saw a little bit yesterday and those guys can shred!
I think Carol has a few pics from today to get posted later on.

| Yea, no wind today but still had some fun, had a little photo shoot at the skatepark, which is way sick by the way.

And congrats to Josh Brady
for his placement as well.
local folks doing good things
Maybe Floras Lake Windsurfing would help sponser an event on the
South coast
plenty of wind down there
it would be hard to call an event for waves
as we get so few great wave days
probably a window with a lead time to arrive would work best

Yeah, WTG Josh! He and Carol had a near photo finish with Carol edging him out by about 10 seconds. Josh and Reed are both top notch kids! (Comes right from Mom and Dad ) Was nice to chat with them and to watch them in the waves for a bit on Friday.
I talked with Will about doing an event at Floras Lake and it sounds like he tried it once and it is pretty difficult to get permits - something like 4 or 5 different agencies want to stick their nose into it. Maybe something on the coast down there might be easier though.
So, in the end the parts that did go off were fun, it's just too bad there wasn't any wind the last two days. I spoke with John at the end of the day today and he said he had learned a few things and will try to do it a little later in the season next time and will probably go with an on-call 48 hour notice kind of thing to make sure it matches up with wind and waves. I also think he needs to come up with better pricing for the locals who don't need the hotel rooms and maybe aren't interested in the other free events.
I've been to 7 different competitions now (4 in the NW, 2 in Texas, 1 in Baja)and they have ALL been impacted by lack of wind on one day or another. It's easier to get sponsors and all the needed permits when you pick a specific date but you are really at the mercy of mother nature. Even Bridge of the Gods has had wind problems two years in a row during what is usually our prime season. I like the idea of something flexible at the coast but the 48 hour notice might keep a lot of people out of it. And yes, I know this one was planned too early in the season when the weather hasn't really settled in yet but you have to start somewhere.
Still, I feel like I got my money's worth (just barely though!) - 4 nights in a hotel on the beach with my honey, free dinner, free BBQ, hanging out with friends, and meeting some new people. The wind and waves sucked but sometimes you have to make lemonade - or go drink beer at McMennamin's with Will and Liz.
Now, will someone flip the switch and turn on summer?
See ya on the water!

Not sure what happened to the purse. Checks were handed out to the pro's on Friday evening after the downwinder but I'm pretty sure they didn't distribute the whole thing as they were still hoping for wind on Saturday and Sunday.
I'll post something if I hear any details.

Here's a couple of photos that were forwarded to me. Of course the Newport gang never makes the drive up to LC and we were having fun of our own, but these from Friday's brief wind event make it look pretty fun! Great shots taken by Richard Hallman.
