I guess I should say... I know LC can be good, but is the contest location in LC a good one?
You are right for sure about a range of dates being best for a contest on the coast. That or have it at some place like Manzo that gets a thermal boost often. |

John planned the event with the help of local kitesurfer and surfer rob russo and cabrinha rider Jeff Kafka. I'm sure he would be open to any input you guys might give him re: if there is a better time of the year to do this, based on the extensive local knowledge of the NW community.
You guys know the wind can be fickle. As an organizer myself, (KiteXpo, Ventana event, USW&WO 06/07) we of course always try to plan events when we have the best chance for wind but Mother nature doesn't always cooperate! I think a couple of the BOG's events have been windless too in peak season....
Anyway, good luck to those who are competing and hope you get the higher end of the forecasted conditions! _________________ Marina

As people said from the start, end of May at the Oregon coast in no way guarantees wind. If wind is main concern then July-Aug would probably be the best chance for success. Yeah, some place like Manzo, Florence, Pistol River, etc. would probably have better chances for strong wind, but then we might get blown away . LC does blow pretty consistently during peak season though. _________________ The Slider Project, LLC

| Yeah, I was all packed up and ready to go in the morning. But now after looking at the completely twisted and caved in forecast, it's central corridor for this gator. It will be good to see all the Gorge and PDX folks. |

A couple of things to add ,
PKH, L.C. can be all time , come down and do a downwinder with us next time you are making a trip to the coast. Just because somebody decided to throw an event at the end of May because that was when the sponsors wanted people coming in to town----- if it does not go off well does not mean L. C. is not a good location.
Mark, Jumpin Jimi is not a hater, like the saying goes walk a mile in his shoes, if you have not been on the recieving end of a profanity laced tirade by the event organizer on more than one occasion you probably are not gonna get where Jimi is coming from. |

who hasn't heard of surfers yelling in the line-up
we get some kiters doing it too!
I don't think belittling the first kite event on the Or. coast
is going to help get rid of the jackass.
Verbal beatdowns are for sure unacceptable
weather on the beach, in the line-up
or on this forum .
but thanks for clearing up why jimmi is always yelling at us |

It went off late but the wind finally came in! The pro's started at 4:15 and the amateurs started about 12 minutes behind them. The race was lots of fun. And somebody won.
And the party last night wasn't too bad either! I saw the Caution guys order up about $60 worth of shots at one point. Not sure about everything after that.
Lots of kites and smiles yesterday. Not a lot of wind (10m - 16m kites) but enough to make the racing competitive and exciting (at least for the racers - maybe not the crowd!). Also some nice swell came in late yesterday.
I'll try to bust out the camera today and get some pics.
So far the organization has been good, the accommodations are good, the food on the beach and the party at the Casino was good and everything seems to be running well. Can't control the wind but everything else is working. The only thing not good is the freezing cold water!

We were at Road's End and starting around 3:00 p.m. the waves went from the 2-3's to 4 - 6'. Not many of the 6's but there were some and they were pretty clean. I'm guessing at the 6' but when I have to look UP to see the top of the wave I'd say 6' or more. Not epic but some of the guys were hitting it. I even caught a decent overhead wave while warming up for the race. I'm sure it's not up to the normal expectations for the coast but it didn't totally suck either. Much better than the waves in SPI so I'm not complaining!
So far it looks pretty flat this morning about 1 to 2' out in front of the hotel. And no sign of wind yet. Just glassy water for miles.
