John Forse from Nelscott reef?
Kiteboarder? I really don't think he kites?

This will be interesting.
The weather is pretty unstable still in May but could be all time.
Oregon coast is a great venue for comps.
Europe has cold water surf comps all the time.
But John Forse?

Have fun.

So, who's in so far..?

Am's slots already half-full.

Just wondering who's gonna make it out..?

-and looks like this will be those 3 days only...no back-up dates/no refunds Rolling Eyes

And, not too sure, cause this would be the first contest..but, what is a media banquet...And sounds kinda weird just mailing a check to a surf shop...?

4 nights is rider only...so for any extra body it's $50/night.

weird. what are the top three finishing $ awards? this comp is pretty expensive- he needs to post what the winnings actually are for every class be it pro or am.

DITTO!

BEWARE!

Kiteboarding demographic = high profit from entry fees = a great scam

THIs is a total bummer though...It seems like it could be a super sweet event and great exposure for some of us!! I really want to enter, but kinda stuck.

Anyone here already enter or planning on it...?

No one is going to beat this fucker if he does the downwinder and just kiteloops the whole thing... Then again, he needs 30-40 to do that! Cool

i'm not defending him, but I will post up expenses that delayed me from doing this kind of thing at sunset for now.

(first, I talked to a lot of the locals up and down the coast to get their input on where...so I didn't contaminate any local riding spots!) Smile

1) there is event insurance. I can't remember the amount you have to provide, but I think it was 50,000 property, 100,000 for each applicant and 500,000 for each accident. I don't know what that equates to in dollar amounts.

2) day use permits. Each applicant has to have one. Again, no idea what this means in dollar amounts.

3) event application fee - $100

4) organization time, etc...

5) course stuff for the kitercross (jumps, turn buoys, etc...)

6) Four nights in a motel/hotel per rider

7) unplanned costs.

Again, I'm not advocating the way this guy is doing the event. It would have been nice to pick a more 'public' spot than our favorite riding holes... but competitions are fun, and this might get more people trying out wave riding instead of being locked into river riding for the rest of their lives...so it's not all bad....but I agree, $200 is pretty steep.

Well.... Carol and I are signed up. Figure I can make a decent showing in the race events and provide some comic relief in the wave event. Seeing as how the price includes 4 nights lodging I don't think it's too bad. I would like to see a little more info about the lodging, refund policy, prize distribution, etc, but Carol did all the entry stuff so I haven't seen any forms or other info.

All the comps we've been to have been a ton of fun. Not too worried about winning or not, I just like to have fun and compete. We'll try to take some pics for those that can't make it.

Tony

Only thing I am gonna say is that there is a reason why the people chiming in with a coastal zip code are chanting boycot and it aint cause we are just grumpy antisocial types. Do your homework boys and girls. Confused
