the aptera is sort of cool in a geeky way. the reality is replacing 15-20 mpg cars with 40 mpg cars will have a much bigger impact then replacing 40 mpg cars with 100 mpgs cars.

if you drive 15,000 miles per year, then switching from 20 to 40 mpg takes off 375 gallons per year. switching from 40 mpg to 100 takes off only 225 gallons.

I see the point you are trying to make but its a bit flawed. Going from 20 to 100 mpg reduces total gas consumption by 600 gallons. How many people that you know have cars that get 40mpg right now? ummm, maybe one?

I'm not trying to diss you, I'm just saying its short sighted to "shoot low" in fact I think its fairly short sighted to even think about using gas or diesel to power the cars of the future.

There are cars being powered by water and even more promising, compressed air. The time for using melted dinosaur goo to drive to cosco to buy boxes of plastic shit delivered all the way to china is coming to an end.

Has anyone tried any Hydrogen conversions?

This has potential?

This could be strong alternative.

I'd like to here some accounts or thoughts.

Hydro is a great alternative, but the main issue is finding fueling stations that carry it. It has been successful in Greenland and European countries.

Again, we are fighting a petroleum giant. Why do you thing prices have soared along with Chevron’s profit margins. They claim it is used for R&D, but all of the companies I have run; R&D is a cost that is taken out before our final margins are published. They are feeding us a bunch of crap and we continue to buy it. I am guilty, 20 gallons per week in the off season, 40 when I am kitting.

To help with my pain, I have purchased stock in Chevron and am switching to a more efficient car. Please help my stock increase in value. Thank you.

Seems like the HHO concept is a good idea, but you still need electricity, and unless you can use less electricity than you would in an electric car, then it doesn't make much sense to complicate things with hydrogen creation, combusition, and batteries.

Stanley Meyer claimed to have created a type of HHO / water fueled perpetual motion machine, but it was disproven:

Its interesting though that he died suddenly. Wink

I realize that I'm part of the problem by admitting this....but....

...it's pretty hard for me to think about fuel consumption when something this cool looking is available.

The HX definitely looks like it would fare better on the jetty than the Tesla or Aptera.

What's truly gay though is how many people will get them to drive around the freeways of SoCal.

How about LPG / CNG conversions / add on kits. I saw NW-Natural guy driving around a CNG Hyundia Accent the other day - same car my wife has... got me thinking.

Found this while doing some research: Long range gas price estimates in 1989! Ahh... diesel was $0.59 / gallon... hmmm a little steep.

For the freeways of LA the safest thing you can do is bulletproof your car. Anything beyond that is just gravy.

If you drive that around, you may have to change your handle to tinyD.
