Yes it is, and my wife and I are headed to the Bay Area to visit friends and family.......and kite of course. Should be on the road for about a month. Interestingly enough I have found numerous places to buy filtered veg oil on the way and in the Bay Area for $1.50-$2.00 a gallon. Way Way better than gas or diesel.

Did everyone enjoy the weekend gas prices?

Since $4 a gallon is here, I should change the topic name to "Here comes $5 a gallon" ... sounds like that's what's coming for us in July. Shocked

Just made the drive back from SPI to Stevie over the weekend. Gas prices climbed steadily from 3.65 in SPI to 3.89 in El Paso, to 4.27 in Los Angeles. Somewhere along the way I think we paid 4.33 or something ridiculous.

I've driven up and down I-5 from WA to CA many many times and this was the emptiest I've ever seen. Had to be less than a dozen motor homes on the road from Bakersfield to Medford on Sunday. Only passed one between Redding and Ashland. Looks like it's getting too expensive to move the big rigs around as much as people used to.

Also the first time I haven't gone as fast as the speed limit allowed! Out in west Texas the speed limit is 80 which means you're usually 82 to 85. But the gas gauge was dropping so fast I slowed it down to about 73.

sigh...

i broke down and bought an enemy of the oil men this weekend for my commute to work and back. time to start decreasing my 'carbon footprint' even more...

this is going to make kiting during the week pretty tough.

Ouch! That's how you know we've lost all of our freedom.

Welcome back though. Not quite SPI weather yet, but we're hoping it'll warm up by August.

Ha putting a huge carpool sign on the back of your huge SUV... as far as enhancement goes, that's like punching yourself in the groin after a handfull of viagra. Very Happy

The car pool sign is definitely a good idea. It is still amazing to me that people thought the price of gas wasn't going to escalate to what it is know when they were buying all those SUV's. They say stupidity should be painful, and I guess it is going to be painfull on the pocketbook for some. The funniest thing is that SUV's are know essentially worthless. Some car delaers won't even take them back on trade in. And to those people who are contemplating taking advantage of the gas supplements offered by car dealers..what are you going to do when thesuplplemtn period is over and gas is $7.00/ gallon. OUCH!!!

Interesting report. Assuming this keeps up, the other thing you might notice is fewer semi's on the road. Rail is much more fuel efficient - apparently, steel on steel can roll at 400 ton-miles per gallon of diesel. Shocked Heavy trucks are nowhere near that. Warren Buffet bought a bunch of rail stocks recently...

there is still a lot of latitude in terms of disposable income for the middle income America. Sorry to say this, but prices will keep on going up.

The gas price in Norway is expected to reach about $3.50 this summer...and that is per liter (of course depending on the political climate in the middle east).

I know that paying over $4 for a gallon is getting out of control, but at least we don't have it as bad as other parts of the world. Check this out

Living at a kite beach will solve all of your problems (except maybe having an income). No need for gas if you don't need to drive.
