BTW: Netherlands Amsterdam $6.48 a gal.
According to Dutch law you are allowed to work a maximum of 9 hours a day and 45 hours a week. However, a person is only allowed to work 2080 hours a year, thus the average working week is 40 hours. The working week is usually Monday to Friday, depending on the type of work. Also, there is a legal minimum of one day's rest a week, normally Sunday. Normal hours are 09:00 to 18:00 with two 15 minute breaks and an hour and a half lunch break.
Vacations
You are entitled to a minimum of 20 days a year for holidays. Employers often allow five extra days. Employees receive normal pay during their holidays.
And the average income is U$D 48,900. I've made near that only one year of my life so far.
I don't feel sorry for 'em. well, some of them. I have family there.
I'm getting and old '79 Honda 1200 civic put together right now, hope to have it going by next month. 35 city 42 hwy. Nice
I'll be hitting the coast lots this summer. I hope.?! my T-100 pulls a lame 13mpg. I'm working on that too.
There is a 49 cc four stroke kit for bicycles with a moto looking tank and drivegears, and even custom pipes with expansion chambers available. 120 mpg w 185lb ridder on average 24"bike $369 . That might be the downtown commuter for me. |

You should come to the UK, it is hitting $10.80 per gallon now. The most expensive fuel in Europe... Mainly cause our sh!tty government levies about 67% tax on it, it's a total joke. The idea is that they tax us so we switch to other methods of transport. Trouble is there really aren't many other methods of transport. The trains are sh!t, buses are worse and there is no plan to improve these services.
It is a nightmare, we have record levels of migration right now, more people are leaving the UK than ever before. We also have to pay a tax to own a car, which as of next year is nearly doubling, if you own a new SUV it will be nearly $1000! Add to that speed cameras on every corner, which are used as a revenue cash cow as opposed to traffic calming and safety...
Reading that back what the hell am i still doing here!

Blowhard, for the record the Venezuelan government has no interest in Circle K. Circle K is owned by a Canadian corporation, Alimentation Couche-Tard. They are a publicly traded company on the Toronto stock exchange. |

Ike, the average tax in Europe is WAY higher than here. Even if Norway is expected to reach over $12 a gallon, have 25% VAT/GET, and 50% income tax it is not sorry for any of us.
I actually think we should all just take responsibility and get cars that burn less fuel instead of driving gas guzzlers. The funny thing is that cars and gas is actually subsidized in the USA keeping the prices unnaturally low.
When that is said, the oil companies has never earned more...but you can't both have a free market and imposed gas prices.

Yeah we get taxed pretty bad, Income tax is 20% they just changed it so low income workers are about $100 worse off per month... We have 17.5% VAT on everything, they even charge income tax on your pension. Oh and when you die we have something called inheritance tax. Basically if you die and leave an estate worth over $500,000 then you pay 40% tax on everything above that mark. It's a joke as the limit was set years ago when houses were worth about $50,000 so it was designed as a tax for the mega rich. Now most peoples houses are worth $1,000,000 if not more so basically they screw you every which way...
Running a business isn't fun either Cooperation tax is set at 20% and you pay it regardless of your companies size...
England sucks pretty bad for taxes and the government burns money like its going out of fashion. 60% of the work force work for the government so its kind of a self perpetuating nonsense. You can't see a doctor when you need to either, i blew my knee out a few years back and had to wait 6 months to get something done about it. While we have a National Health Service, its totally shit...
I'm currently applying for a visa for Australia...

Eggs not more because of Ethanol or biodiesel. The US thanks to beltway lobbyists, still subsidizes farmers to NOT grow corn. Tortillas and eggs are increasing in price because of our total dependence on crude oil and rising costs for shipping. Corn syrup subsidies and costs to our health care system alone easily could cover current biofuel consumption and more. Look at Brasil and Germanys economies soaring in part to biofuels and weaning off crude. America is currently largest consumer.
If we carpooled, ate less meat, invested in public transportation, and didn't vote for Saudi Prince Lackeys that are complete tools of the corporate world. Exxon posting world record profits while still getting subsidies. Hey lets vote for another oil president because Wars, plummeting economies, and no investment in alternative energies rules. |

"If we carpooled, ate less meat, invested in public transportation, and didn't vote for Saudi Prince Lackeys . ." sounds like the cure for diabetes as well as rising gas prices.
what we need is a common vision that begins with an understanding that we will suffer a bit in the short run to gain large in the long-sort of like learning to kite, or anything, really.
a community wide vision encompasses the idea that we must live where we work and play. the whole commuter thing is suddenly revealed for what it is when gas reaches a certain price.
making choices that reflects the need to view oneself as something more than a meat-sack full of personal agendas is critical-your father and grandfather achieved this view when they laid down their lives for family during WWII, Korea and VietNam. we are just as capable as they were, and we will rally around a leader with a righteous vision, just as they did.
in the meantime, become a bit of a quirk. see if you can spend less time in your car. buy a bicycle. use the bus. gas use is down in the u.s. and thus, crude futures are beginning to peak at my last look. support those who speak for the need for conservation. get greener!
i have bicycled through the worst oregon has to offer in terms of weather for 10 years. it is not only possible, but sort of fun. and my wife of 25 years gets hot when she sees me naked.
and if you choose to still drive, instead of flipping off the bicyclist who gets in your way, thank him/her for the money he keeps in your pocket.
word.

Tue Jul 29, 08 11:11 am Tesla hits the streets finally.. |
|
|
can we talk about cars some more??
"eyewitnesses to the crash told him the Roadster had gone “unnoticed” because of its low profile and silent powertrain."
but the picture shows the fault is technically with the Tesla driver...
