Mon Aug 27, 12 1:46 pm Cable Park - It's Game Time! |
|
|
It is game time everyone! The debate for the cable park is neck and neck. Only your help can secure the approval of the project.
We are looking for six key people to speak at the upcoming September 12th Port of Hood River meeting. This will be a great time to come out and speak on behalf of your community. It would be even more beneficial if you’re a parent, a professional, or a business owner. We know time is short but your participation in this process is critical.
There are now three main arguments being used to brand the cable park by the opposition: The cable park is “exclusive use” of the boat basin
The cable park will only be used by 16-30 males who have money
The cable park will have a negative effect on the economy We need your help in providing testimony that dismantle these arguments, and provide the Port of Hood River Commissioners with the support they need to make the right decision.
If you can help, please message me on facebook or email me at fbr@14x.net. Last edited by forrest on Thu Sep 06, 12 4:42 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Make sure you mention that there are over 1000 registered users on PSKite (men and woman) alone that are located in and around Seattle that have and will continue to bring revenue to the area, and a cable park will only increase that potential. I could make those iffy forecasts turn into trips to the gorge if there is an insurance policy for skunkings.

Haha, that's pretty hilarious. SNUBA as a sport seems a bit of a stretch. _________________ The Slider Project, LLC

I would agree with the skunked forecast alternative. I've definitely gotten calls asking how the forecast is at the shop I work at. A cable park would certainly help especially with the kite crowd.
Also I would argue that days that see the most SUP usage are light/no wind days anyways when the whole river is extremely user friendly and even moderately boring/unchallenging for more advanced SUPer's _________________ BIP- "YOUR GIRLFRIENDS FAVORITE" |

I would love to sign up for a speaking post at this meeting, but I live in MN, so no dice. I would say however, that this would just give me another reason to want to spend my few vacation days in Hood River, as even if the wind was not blowing, I would have a great opportunity to hone my skills, and have a blast. Please get this thing built so I can try some cable action. Thanks for all of your work, and I hope it happens for you guys. _________________ Eric Paulson |

Eric, you can let your comments be known here: http://portofhoodriver.com/waterfront/CP.php
Just scroll down to the "Public Process and Input" section and click the plus sign. A form will open that you can submit your testimony on. |

Hi Forrest, I sent in some comments abut 5 days ago. I assume it gets to the same place, or do I need to resubmit as testimony as well?
<<Thank you, Mr. Cohn (Eric), for taking the time to contact the Port of Hood
River with your comments regarding the cable park that is being proposed for
the Nichols Basin. Your email will be shared with the Port Commissioners,
and a copy will be printed for inclusion in the public testimony records.

Hey Eric, that's perfect. Thanks for taking the time. The only reason to resubmit is if you have something to add. |

clearly they haven't been to daytona beach for spring break, IT'S AWESOME!
But really, daytona beach?
90% of those shots were taken in areas that would unaffected by the cable, and then there's the on land shots. _________________ BIP- "YOUR GIRLFRIENDS FAVORITE" |

Exclusive use is requiring a multi-thousand dollar gear setup to enjoy the area. This stinks of "Not in my yard you pesky kids".
Their plan to improve the area looks about as mature and realistic as the plans my daughter has to get more candy out of the jar. I really wonder how many of these "Friends" will stick around to help with the improvement process should this cable park not pass. |

That video is pretty sad. I mean, where else can you let your bikini clad bulldog pretend to swim. Pretty misguided fear mongering going on there. |

Just want to point out that I've been interacting with the Port of Hood River and going to their meetings for 5 years. I've applied to be on the Port's budget committee and have a long track record of working to improve my waterfront. In the past 5 years, I've only seen one of the opponents at Port meetings.
You can count that when this is all said and done, the opponents will be long gone and none of them will work to push any kind of plan forward.
It's easy to bitch and complain when something is moving forward that you don't like, but actions speak louder than words. I fully expect these people won't put any money, or time, where their mouth is.
We have a plan in place (Thank you Naito Development, no one has thanked you publicly yet for dealing with all this b.s. yet continuing), funding is in place, and it will benefit 1,000s of us in the summer, and the rest of us who live here in the shoulder seasons. |

Sort of like the waterfront park. Once that was approved, no one pitched in there either, they all "dissappeared" .......yeah right, one of the most popular spots on the river, made from a place no one used before....
Golf courses folks...take the engergy and hit them up for putting in a cable park at the local golf course. They go hand in hand.
Nothing wrong with cable parks but something is wrong about taking a public space for private use. |
