Obviously we could both spend days trying to talk circles around each others arguments. Even your highlighted section could be defined and broken down to declassify the boat basin as a navigable waterway. If that really is your reason for opposing the cable, because the basin is navigable and an unlimited amount activities can be done there, I find it pretty ridiculous and uninformed but there are plenty of ridiculous stupid people out there...

And lets be honest, the only activities the basin is good for is swimming, if you dont mind getting cancer, suping if u have a thousand dollars to spend on a board and a truck or van to transport it, or a boat if you are rich enough to also own/maintain one of those...

Who is the uninformed one here? You are trying to make up definitions of terms that the federal government and the state of Oregon have already clearly defined. When I call you out on making stuff up you call me uninformed, ridiculous, and stupid? Do you even think about what you are saying?

One of your biggest shouting points over the last couple of months has been accusing the opposition of running a campaign of misinformation. I think we've seen here who the misinformed is, though. You can't just call something "Misinformation" because you don't agree with it.

So you believe that swimming in the basin will give you cancer? Then why the F@$K would you want to put a cable park there? So you can give cancer to all your low-income friends that will finally be able to enjoy the Hood River waterfont when a cable park goes in?

YOU, Ian are the one spreading BS about this project. And I am going to call BS on your BS every chance I get. Why? Because people are starting to associate your BS with all "Kiteboarders." Because you are being a shitty Ambassador to the sport of kiteboarding. I remember when you were learning how to kiteboard all those years ago. I remember how good the kiteboard community was to you back then when you were just a tiny little kid. Do you remember that? Do you remember how supportive of you we all were? Well, now you're doing a huge disservice to that community. Please stop.

By all means, please fight for what you want. Just do it with some integrity.

When I say uninformed I mean the reasons you think the cable park should not be there are not the right reasons to be fighting the cable. I would be against the cable park if it really were going to displace a large amount of people who used the space regularly. I say you are uninformed because you and the opposition like to twist the real issue at hand and turn it into something that it isnt.

The real issue is that a handful of people use the space and dont have anywhere else they think they can go. We could easily improve other areas of the waterfront to be suitable to these sports, I think many of the opposition would be open to this if there werent a large group of the opposition twisting the issues. Thats what Im saying, do we really care if this is a navigable body of water all that much because when we all look at it, honestly what comes to mind? We really need that piece of water to be navigable that is so important?

So when you talk about integrity lets remember what the real issues at hand are, and how they can be dealt with, instead of trying to find anything you possibly can find, to oppose the cable park.

And again please dont blow what Im saying out of proportion, you are ridiculous sometimes, a handful of people look at this forum, and no one is thinking down on the kite community as a whole for what I post.

As for swimming in the basin, the amount of time spent in the water riding a cable compared to swimming?? Obviously you havent looked at a cable park much...

Hey Trent, when you're done insulting Ian and the rest of the community that is in favor of a cable park in the basin, try to realize that your interpretation of what you have read is only that. Your comments about low income make you look like an elitist and a poor ambassador for the entire community.

Have I ever said WHY I don't think a cable park should exist in Nichols Basin? No. I haven't. I've simply been pointing out the inaccuracies in your posts. That's it.

What you call "The real issue at hand..." is simply your opinion. There are actually plenty more issues at hand. And it's not as simple as saying "Well, not that many people use this space right now so we should be able to just take it away from the public." That argument is weak.

And yes, people really do care that this body of water is currently navigable and public. People do indeed care.

And yes. I have ridden cable parks. And yes, much of the time is spent riding on top of the water. That is until you fall. So by your logic the better riders will get much less exposure to this "Cancer" that you speak of and the beginning riders, well....too bad for them I guess.

And Laura, my comments about "Low income" were satire. I was calling BS on the proponent's arguments that building a cable park will provide opportunities for low income people to enjoy the waterfront. That is a joke. Didn't you hear the people laughing at the meeting when one of your speakers mentioned his "Low income friends" ?

Guys, this is getting absurd.

Cancer?!?

Ian, just stop please. Everyone has a right to what they think belongs in the Basin. The Port will decide on what they think is in the best interest of the people and Hood River.

Arguing about the legality of the public's right to use the water is a waste of time. It's not as simple as one would hope and either the courts, DSL or the Port's attorney will resolve that issue. But I assure you it will NOT be resolved in this or any internet forum, lol.

Trent, I do appreciate your efforts to call BS, but careful when feeding the trolls Wink

Also, a cable park would provide access to wakeboarding, waterskiing, kneeboarding, etc... to a broader demographic as well as lower income levels. It's not free, but it would be more accessible and environmentally friendly than a boat. We should be able to agree on that.

Lol I was simply stating that the water in the basin is filthy. Jesus I wasn't literally implying that swimming in the basin leads to cancer. You people are incredible sometimes.

A local school kid gave testimony that his friends who can't afford expensive sports, could enjoy a cable park because it costs much less to participate. You and a few of the anti-cable park crowd laughed, showing extreme disrespect. Satire does not redeem your actions.

People laughed because portraying this cable park as some sort of community service project geared towards local under privileged youth is a JOKE.

I don't know why it would be Trent. Compared to wind sports, alpine resorts, owning a ski boat etc., wake boarding in a cable park is extrememly accessible. At the parks I have visited, they are frequented by youth...and they all look like world class athletes.

I'm willing to bet that anyone, especially any kiters siding against the cable park, haven't been to one and don't understand what they are or the positive affect they have in the communities they serve.

hanging at a cable park with my nephews ... it certainly looked like lots of folks of modest means were there.

I didn't ask for their tax returns. It's possible they were driving beater cars to save money for the purchase of a vacation home.

It's like $40 for a couple hours of high intensity fun. Gear included. Seems like a cheap stay-cation to me.

I think laughing at the "low income" option for a cable park has got to be the height of stupidity. It's not going to be predominantly poor kids, but there will be 100X as many poor kids cable-parking than kiteboarding or windsurfing.

"People" didn't laugh, "opponents" laughed...

I think sticking to facts, rather than emotion will keep this conversation on track.

Cool dude, adults laughing at a high schooler getting involved with his community and speaking for an issue he is passionate about, sounds awesome. Granted the cable park isn't geared towards under privileged kids it would allow them cheaper access to a fast paced water sport.

Maybe the cable park could donate some time to local underprivileged youth. Announcing it early might help sway opinion.

OK, I've been to the cable park in Singapore, and one of the things that was so cool about it was the fact that world travelers were riding right beside local Malays that were poor enough to make most of Hood River's under-privileged kids look well to do. These kids saved all year to afford the season pass. They worked at jobs that you wouldn't even dream of having your dog do, because the cable park finally brought something joyous into their live's. Sitting in line getting to know these kids was a special experience to me. In all my travels I haven't ever been able to become as an equal to folks from life like that. A cable park absolutely helps to break down class barriers. Been there, done that.

So, sorry Trent, but get your head out of your ass. Yes, this is an opportunity for kids of modest means to experience something that you and I take for granted. You want to be against this park? That's cool. I don't agree with you but I respect your right to believe differently than I do. You want to laugh at kids less well off than you? Well, F^%k you then. I get so damn sick of people with money who have never put themselves in the shoes of those less fortunate than themselves.

Sorry I got pissed. I have no problem with people that believe differently than myself on this subject. I'll fight to the death to support your right to do that. But I have no patience for yuppie asswipes who laugh at the thought that a kid who can't afford water/wind sports might enjoy something they can aspire to afford. Doesn't mean you have to support it, but at the very least don't laugh at these kids. You probably don't believe you did that, folks refuse to believe the darkness in their own heart. But actions speak louder than words or thoughts. You have betrayed you and your friends elitism with those laughs. Hopefully you'll re-asses your attitudes and maybe learn to be a bit more human.
