Please! Keep them off of the sandbar, and keep them leashed at the Event Site. I have owned dogs all of my life and currently have one. Not a hater. But, it's just too nuts with unleashed dogs running out on the spit. In the last three weeks I have:
1. Had a dog jump over my kite and catch the TE--no damage.
2. Have two dogs run over my friend's Rebel--two holes from claws.
3. Had a dog get caught in my kite lines and drag my kite out into into the kiddie pool--no damage to dog or kite, luckily.
4. Watch a dog owner WALK AWAY from SEEING HIS DOG sun over the canopy of a Helix, or Cult that was drying in the designated area of the Event Site without checking to see if anything was damaged.
Please...
Thanks,
Eric

In my limited experience so far, my favorite is flying a trainer and dodging the piles of crap. I certainly hope Kiters' arent taking dogs to their own beach (and not picking up after themselves).

Unpacked a brand-new 9 on the lawn yesterday...took about 3 minutes before had a puppy walk/claw across it. No leaks fortunately. ...Prefer to wreck kites in a more traditional fashion.

Strongly agree. Had a friend's new kite get 2 claw holes the first day he pumped it up on the spit (one dog chased another over it).
CGKA: Could this be addressed by way of the Waterfront Committee?
I would have loved to see responsible dog owners be able to bring their dogs to the spit. Sadly, irresponsible ones have ruined it for everyone.

How is this is a gay post? Dogs on the sandbar do suck, and so does shit everywhere. If your dog knows how to act around kites then its all good, and if you are cleaning up after them whatever. But if they are going to run over kites then they shouldnt be down there.

Nope! I have a dog as well and don’t let her do the things above. The problem is most dog owners think the world revolves around their dog and let them run wild. Exercise the dog before you get to the kite launch, not while pumping up and then kiting! If you’re not okay keeping the dog leashed then leave it at home.

If the world revolved around their dog then they wouldn't be out kiteboarding!!!
You must be as dumb as your dog that you leave at home!!!!

Great picture, showing all the places a kite line can tangle on the collar... makes a good case for at least taking off the collar, before letting the pooch run around, over and through a playground full of kite lines.
I had a dog swim/run between me and my downed kite, in the kiddie pool a couple of years ago...snagging one of the lines, which then locked into the clip on the collar. The dog panicked, along with me, as the kite threatened to relaunch.
Neither the dog or I want to do that again!
At least take the collar off before letting your dog run loose on the Spit.

<<if a dog runs over your kite and fucks it up, do something about it!!!>> Don't be a pussy and bitch about it all over the Internet!!!! >>
So, if one of the many dogs running loose on the spit runs over a person's kite, are they supposed to find the person that owns the dog, confront them, and ask for them to pay for the repair? Or, do they ask the dog to pay for it? Do they have a discussion with the dog? Do they rig up another undamaged kite with a picture of the dog pasted on it and kite out into the Columbia looking for the dog owner? Does one take the dog to small claims court? What exactly does "do something about it" involve? A rhetorical question--no need to answer.
When people leave their dog at the spit and go kiting they start running around in packs and doing what dogs do. When people kite they typically do not see their dog do anything--good , or not so good. If a dog happens to be the 1/100 that does not that's great. Those folks should feel free to ignore this "Gay" post.
In the mean time, I think it's pretty clear that dogs are a problem down there. This comes up every year and we usually have a post about it every year, after which most folks leave them at home.
<<Don't be a pussy and bitch about it all over the Internet!!!! >>
Not bitching at all--just asking people to use some sense. If that's being "a pussy," so be it--I am okay with that. Posting a concern on the local NW kite forum is not what I would call, "all over the internet."
In my case, I do not have it out for anyone, nor any particular dog. This is a "Dogs and kites" don't mix post.
