I hope they don't enforce chaining up in Sandy as was mentioned in the other thread. Yeah, it'd probably help a few dumb shits from getting stuck/in accidents, but if the roads stay as they've been, the AWD/4WD cars shouldn't have any probs. Might be a different story if the snow plows can't keep up on 26 though...

Shur Grip Z chains by SCC have always worked for me.
They're the ones in the grey boxes that you can get pretty cheap at GI Joes.
Mine we're about 40-50 bucks.
Tire store wanted like 85 for shittier chains.
or just move to hood river.
I hear that if you buy a house there, there's already a subie waiting for you in the garage

I owned a 2000 Subaru Forrester for a while and really liked it except after about a year, the clutch would chatter really badly from time to time. I complained about it a few times while it was still under warranty and the dealer told me that there was NO FIX for it that worked long term!
That pissed me off, but not as badly as what happened next. A couple of years later I heard the same problem being described on Car Talk and they advised that this was a common problem with Subarus and that there was a Subaru service bulletin at their dealers that described the fix (a new clutch).
By that time my Subaru was about a year out of warranty, but I figured since I'd complained about it while it was under warranty, and it was a known defect, I wouldn't have any problem getting it fixed. Wrong! Even after I escalated all the way up to the regional service manager at Subaru they completely blew me off. I've never been treated so poorly by a well known company.
I swore I would NEVER BUY ANOTHER SUBARU. They work great and are well designed cars so long as you don't get a defective one, but apparently if something goes wrong, Subaru just says "fuck you".

Had four subarus. One with 237k miles on it w/ no rebuilt motor. There was no 2nd gear on that one. Totalled one in the Blues too. I've blown many many clutches driving seattle traffic and doing long distance trips up and down the mtns. Yeah and the warrantys are BS, I always had problems with the company. SO I switched to Audi's. Best cars I've ever driven in the snow/ice. Love passing huge SUV's up hill. Neener neener neener. Used ones are less expensive or are about the same price as a Subaru. Try Salt lake, it's Audi country.
M.
PS. Chains are lame, get AWD asap. I hear there is a fire sale on cars these days..

Wow flydunes bummer..lemons are found in every brand dont give up on subies..I have owned 5 Subies and one even had 280k on it and never had any problems. My A4 on the other hand complete lemon but I would still try another one at some point.
kyle make sure ur chains are tight, keep the speed under 35...if they are lose at all they will break. I have always had good luck with the quick fit ones from LS.

Just get yourself an AFFORDABLE snow and Mountain specific rig for the winter with studs!!
Check out this Ultimate-Affordable Mountain Rig- Studded!!
First $1750 take it, or first $2500 takes it AND the 2009 Liquid Force Havoc Demo Kite in the size of your choice!!!
We have an Outback, with decent tires.. but it's buried in the snow this week because this van with the aggressive tires and studs, with FWD smokes it! Ever wonder how people cruise up to the mountain on snowy days at near highway speeds?
Call me for a test drive- TODAY- while the roads are crap, to get a real idea of affordable TRACTION!
Check out pics, details, etc here-

for all the subaru lovers..
-not trying to offend anyone fyi...except strachen and chooch.
Quote: | Here in the Pacific Northwest, it is extremely common to see lesbians driving Subaru Outbacks or Forresters. Of course, it is extremely common to see anyone driving Subarus in the Northwest, but the cars are especially popular with the dyke population. So common, they are sometimes called Lesbarus.
Clearly, a Subaru is the car of choice for both the outdoorsy types and for those that just want to appear to be outdoorsy. A Subaru is a practical car, and we all know that lesbians are practical gals. There's room for their gear, their friends, their dogs, and their friend's dogs. It's rugged enough to be taken seriously, without being over the top.
Subaru has a long history of courting the lesbian population, and clearly advertising works. They've had ads with Martina Navratilova and cars with Xena plates. They sponsor a number of gay and lesbian charities. We're suckers for both celesbians and community support.
Mostly, I just want a Subaru so I can fit in with the rest of the gals. |

Can anyone give a comparison between Blizzaks and studs? (Yeah I know this is a verses question - but maybe it can slide just this once )
