Wed Jun 25, 08 7:52 am Coast yesturday--the good and bad of kiters! |
|
|
Out at Manzo yesterday for some the sweet ocean ride. Nearly turned into a disaster when the idiot car crew forgot our pump! Without any other kiters on the beach we drove around the “city” asking anyone we could talk with for an air pump. As we watched the wind build along with our frustration we turned to the human psi machine. Turns out that doesn’t work very well to pump up a kite!
Then at last a kiter on the beach. Ran like hell down the beach to catch him before he went out. Totally blown away when the guys say’s well why don’t you bring your stuff down here to pump up your kite, I don’ t want my pump to go that far. What the heck, out lines are laid out and our kites partially pumped. I offered the guy to hold onto my Maui Jim’s and crack- berry, but he said, “oh well you’ll just grab it when I go out,” UNBELIVABLE that a kiter would think someone was going to STEAL him damn pump.
All I can say, is let the karma is coming baby!
Luckily for us the coast does have some nice guys as well. Josh (sp?) from Cleanline drove down even though he could have taken a session five steps from him back yard. Sincerely thank you! |

Sounds pretty selfish to me. Was the guy really that worried about his stupid pump? What's a pump cost? About $10 bucks? And it's not like they only last 6 weeks or something. Can't believe a kiter wouldn't loan another kiter a pump to get going. Hell, I've loaned out my boards, bars, and kayaks to kiters I barely know. And kites to those I know a bit better. And it all comes back to me. Sometimes with beer attached.
We also find pumps at Stevie every season. We've posted and asked about them but they still seem to accumulate in our van. If you're ever in need I'll give one away.
Share the stoke, man.

| i was on a trip w/ my family on lake mojave last year on a house boat. Wind came up, jetted to the upper deck and threw my shit off onto the beach. started to unpack and saw that I broke my pump when i threw it down. I wanted a darwin award, it sucked. Whole trip, lots of wind, no kiters in site. |

So now I'm confused - when he said “oh well you’ll just grab it when I go out,”
that wasn't some tacit agreement to let you take the pump - and you didn't grab it?
- I would think it would be your moral imperative not to walk away without the pump
