this thread was actually a good one...I'm glad to hear others are using leashes... after my harrowing incident at manzanita, (at the risk of catching hell from fellow kiters), I put the leash back on my surfboard... I figured the risk of the leash was worth it... when you're in the washing machine, the board doesn't hang around long...impossible to grab... |

I wear a leash because I am not afraid of my board hitting me in the head. It is a Tom Morey Fish, soft foam I-Beam stringer, fairly indestructable, Thanks to Scott Norby for showing it off on this forum. I am so stoked on these boards, no more fiberglass repair, I can toss it off the top of the camper and it doesn't hurt it. They still need inserts for footstraps, otherwise they would be perfect, the NSI pads with inserts will work.
Leashes have there down falls, with nice pointy fiberglass boards, pain and blood are concieveable. Like I said, mine is a glorified boogie board, soft and I don't have to wear a helmet or chest protector.
In surfing my leashes are a little longer than my board, for kiting, I like it twice as long as my board.
Expect the best, but plan for the worst. Don't ever think Mother Nature is sweet. |
