to set up a kiteboard carpool section on the forum?

i was listening in on spike and nak and the guys talking about easterlies this weekend and someone mentioned their car was buggered out and that they would chip in gas, etc for a lift. i said to myself: "Self-maybe there is a need here?"

how hard would it be to create a section for coordinating ride shares? it would be cool to cruise to the coast/hr/steve/lyle/wherever with fellow kiters, tell lies, share the stoke and save gas.

sort of a"park and kite." Cool

whaddaya think, phil, can it be done? fellas, would ya come if phil built it?

hey shasta,

nice idea. i would certainly sign up on a friday night to carpool with someone on saturday morning if they said 'hey, i am going to stevenson at 11am and will return at 5pm' or something like that.

maybe set it up by destination and then everyone can work out times?

I've been trying to get something like this going too.

I feel we should have a section on here that details whos kiting that day (and where you'd like to go) and where you're leaving from. Then you can match up with others and call eachother up to arrange a ride.

I think enough people care about this that it can happen.

with that, heres my estimated kiteboarding schedule:

I live along hwy 26th at 185th ave, and will be leaving form there on weekends, otherwise I'm leaving from work in St. Johns around 3:30 or 4 pm during weekdays.
I'll mostly be going to stevenson, but would like to try jones as well.

I am fortunate enough to live less than a mile from work, so no car needed. However, because of that, I am not fortunate enough to have a car on the weekend or weeknights to kite. COUNT ME IN!!! I would be more than happy to cover the gas seeing as I wouldn’t have to rent a car. Not to mention making some new kiter friends. Very Happy

I think it'd be cool, but I'm kind of shy and scared of strangers! Laughing

P.S. - Florian, you're going to be leaving for Stevenson @ ~4:00ish? That's crazy!

did it plenty last year, got there around 5, kite till 6:30 or 7 when the wind dies, though I was living a bit closer then. We'll see, I might have to get to work really early. or stick to weekends.

Dude - the 84 totally gets back up. Its going to be hard to get out to Stevenson leaving at 4 if you are coming from Hillsboro

Yeah, no doubt. That's why I don't head to the Gorge after 3pm on a week day anymore. Also why Jones is a great option. It's a bit further at around 1:15-1:20 from Beaverton, but you don't hit any traffic on the way and it usually blows until dark. I'll be hitting it more this summer for sure. Anyone that's interested lemme know.

I work in st johns, and will be taking marine drive all the way out to troutdale or maybe 205 and get on 84 there. After 205, I-84 is pretty much clear, never had to go slower than 65 last year. I am defiately not planning on driving from downtown to 205 on I-84, that would never work.

I like the idea of a separate section for rides i'm usually driving on my own from Vancouver to Woodland, Jones or Gorge.

How long does Marine Drive to Troutdale take? Seems like a long ways.

Kind of off topic, so sorry. Obviously there are plenty of places to get off of Marine Drive and hop on 84E, but I just ran it all the way down to Troutdale. Pretty sure even 122nd is faster (eastbound isn't normally too bad once you're past 205).
