Hi everyone, just got back from my first trip to Oahu. Trade winds and sun were solid for most of the week. Kiting was great! The swell was small and pretty blown out on the north shore so I didn't get to ride Pipeline... Crying or Very sad

Here are some of my favorite pics:

Thanks for posting the pictures Slater.

Ask your Mom and Dad if they are interested in adopting a 42 y/o to go on the next trip. I know a good family law attourney who can handle the legalities.

Good Job D&T! Traveling with kids that age is a challenge in some regards, but easy in others. When he gets a little older you will have to haul a lot more stuff. That last about 2 years then the load gets light again......Unless you have another one.

Thanks guys, it was tough to get good kiting pics as one of us was on Slater duty, and the other on the water. Very Happy Kailua, Lanikai, and the entire windward side of Oahu are great for kiting, surfing, kayaking, you name it. Kailua bay is a bit like La Ventana, but no sea urchins - lots of fun without worrying about getting back to a tight spot. Also, Bellows Beach was a super cool session for Onad b/c the public is not allowed clearance on weekdays and my step-dad got us a pass.

PS- here are a few more pics of the trip.

We were super lucky that Slater slept on a noisy, windy beach while we kited. :)

Going out for a post-kiting paddle out to "flat island" - saw a few sea turtles on the way and snorkeling was awesome!

I keep on missing all your guys...I've been busy with work and an exam lately...only got super short sessions.

Looks nice..should sya we are working on the Kayak issue...they are not supposed to launch from the kite launch area (only in the river mouth and at the boat ramp all the way at the end of the beach towards Lanikai) acct.

GOod to see you guys had a good time. Now exams are over I have to pick up the slack at work...still hoping to get a session in at lunch.

Bellows is nice, but it can be a pretty weird wind direction there...and often the wind is super on shore making it failry dangerous for other beach users..so be careful if you go over there. Smile

If you can make it out the break just right of the right most mokulua, it is really nice. Of course it is waaaay out there, but when that wave works you're in for a treat...oh but don't get caught on the inside...it'll chew you up. Bellows is also where we had our last Shark attack.

The problem is getting there from Kailua...since you have to pass the Mokuluas, and inside there is not only a wind shadow, but very turbulent (exiting Wink.

Did you guys get to do other things too?

a.

Thanks for sharing the stoke!

Can't wait for more wind, and hopefully warmer weather soon.

Yah Alex, we’re really bummed we didn’t meet up. Next time…

I was surprised with the chaos at the Kailua bay launch. Beachgoers walking over lines, kayaks launching/landing and even kite lessons being taught right at the launch. Makes me really appreciate the CGKA and various Gorge Port Authorities that have put usage guidelines in place for the Gorge launches. Currious who has authority to police the rules at Kailua bay and other launches around the island?

Yes, good point about Bellows. The wind was very on-shore. I talked to the lifeguard and a park guy before I launched and they were really cool and gave me the go-ahead. Also, it was a weekday so the beach wasn’t very busy. No doubt, the break is way out there… Shocked

I hadn’t heard about the shark attack, what happened? Interestingly, I did get a “sharky” vibe while riding (solo)... Confused

We did explore the North Shore a bit, but the swell was small and messy. Can’t wait to explore more next visit. Hoping to time it for part of the Triple Crown... Thumb's Up
