I was surprised with the chaos at the Kailua bay launch. Beachgoers walking over lines, kayaks launching/landing and even kite lessons being taught right at the launch. Makes me really appreciate the CGKA and various Gorge Port Authorities that have put usage guidelines in place for the Gorge launches. Currious who has authority to police the rules at Kailua bay and other launches around the island?

You ain't seen nothing yet...you should see it at peak tourist season, when the wind is light...but not too light. We have our hands full.
It is funny..the police will not do much..the beach itself is managed by 3 entities. Police, DLNR has the beach from the bushes to some feet out in the water..and then someone else in the water if I understand it correctly. We deal mainly with the DLNR. Kayakers and other water users are supposed to yield for wind sport users at the launch site..we have made a deal to stick all the tricks jumping etc, at least 200 feet out and always away from other water users...but a lot of people don't know about the rules, and the owner of the kayak rental place don't give a sh!t...he knows..he just don't care. Very frustrating.

Yes, good point about Bellows. The wind was very on-shore. I talked to the lifeguard and a park guy before I launched and they were really cool and gave me the go-ahead. Also, it was a weekday so the beach wasn’t very busy. No doubt, the break is way out there…

Next time I'll show you how to get there..if you're willing to do a gnarly launch then you'll have access to the whole reef...some of the waves are SUPER nice. You just need to find them That is also a break I am planning to SUP one of these days. Way out and no one there....sigh.
I have only been to bellows during the weekend, and we couldn't really go out until it was pretty late since there were so many other beach users.

I hadn’t heard about the shark attack, what happened? Interestingly, I did get a “sharky” vibe while riding (solo)...

Just a guy snorkling out there...the sark only nibbled on him and he survived.
I think you must be so unlucky to get attacked that it isn't worth spending much time thinking about. I've seen a few while kiting, but never any aggression.

We did explore the North Shore a bit, but the swell was small and messy. Can’t wait to explore more next visit. Hoping to time it for part of the Triple Crown...

yup, we could bring out some surfboard up there...more fun than watching others surf...well unless it is Waimea (super big), Pipeline or by Haleiwa...
anyhoo...
