Shymac have you rented a sled before at St. Helens? How much is it and were do you go to get one? At somepoint I would love to buy one but it would be fun to rent some this season.

If you can rent sleds somewhere, we should definitely get a group together and do it. I have never been snow-kiting, but I would love to try it.

Hmmm, guess I will also add a Skyline Photo... Frozen water with a kite is just as fun as the liquid stuff. Had some great days out with Brian and Heather Schenck last winter when I was in Utah teaching skiing.

I had never done it before and within the third day was hucking 20ft doubles off the ridge. If your a decent water kiter, the snow skills come very fast.

i'm totally looking forward to rider snow here - w/ and w/out kite. and i agree that the snow here is killer: all you have to do is ride a boat or lean back so far that your bag leg is ragged from a bell to bell session. and don't let your nose sink in or it's over in our 'fluff' (unless you enjoy cartwheels to your dome).
i like the amount of snowfall here, but why compare the quality to the crappier stuff? good days here are fun - period. and no denying i had 30 of 'em last year and just got my bachelor season pass too. but there's not much sense in denying thatall the ranges throughout the rockies, from new mexico north into canada have far better snow than we do. no comparison. don't take it personally, guys, just book a ticket for the real powder experience and you'll be glad you did.
if it's 2+ feet of fresh and your board is flowing a foot below the surface then you know you aren't in the northwest. it's definitely available in more places than utah...

yeah that squirrel guy was probably the last memorable thing I saw in a Warren Miller flick.

This is fun too:

Warren Millers new film is going to have a kite-skiing clip. I think it's that Alex dude clearing a HUGE road gap. You can see exactly 2sec. of him in this trailer:

I don't know if anything in kiting compairs to those cliff hucks!

Was that even 2 seconds? It would be cool if they threw in a section about snowkiting, probably no sponsors though so why do it? Wink Also couldn't tell how many of those hucks involved landing and how many they pulled a chute on. Either way, pretty cool.

Its too bad the Warren Miller films have gone down hill (har har) since he's no longer running the show. Some of the best snowboarding footage I have seen was in his films from a few years back, now you are lucky to spot one boarder. Skiing seems to own it since his son sold the franchise to that conglomerate.

This will probably be the first year I don't go to see it on the big screen in 7 years.

Yeah, the last one I saw was a big Nisson comercial. Very little snowboarding. Mac dawg etc. make WAY better flix. I love it when there is some Hood footage in the film.
