Fri Sep 28, 2007 7:06 am Snowboarding/Skiing, is it really as fun as Kiteboarding? |

| I was thinking about this last night while I was intoxicated. Is Snowboarding/Skiing nearly as fun as kiteboarding for you? Do you get out there on the mountain and try new tricks or harder runs or bigger jumps? |

freedom of movement, thats all i get from snowboarding now....
i used to drop 20ft cliffs no prob, go off tabletops in the park full speed and huck a 720 and even chase down speed skiers and scream at them as i fly by.
But kiting as me hooked in , i love the slower descent while in the air. it gives me a new high all over agian....to learn something new. _________________ Southern Oregon Kite Addicts |

| Bluebird big pow days are fun for sure, too bad I am usually at Meadows though which means I have to share (and the fresh tracks don't last too long.) |

For my $ there is nothing better than big powder days
The anticipation of the next season keeps things fresh!
And there is nothing like the double double spring days -- ride the chair in the morning, then go kite. Last edited by pacifichigh on Fri Sep 28, 2007 8:31 am; edited 1 time in total |

Thanks registered,
but i think i'm going to spend my sled funds on baja . I figure i got tele-ski's and a kiddie-slide for gear. The best place i found to snowkite is only about 1/2 mile from the parking lot, on a groomed trail....makes for easy walking too.
plus now i can ride the other side of the hill on mondays and tuesdays!!!!!! That means i get the dream, and the bowl _________________ Southern Oregon Kite Addicts |

On the snow, it's all about speed with me. I leave the jumping and tricks for the kiddies that don't need to work or pay for their own insurance.
4-5 inches of fresh power, get up to Meadows right when they open, that's hard to beat. _________________ It's always happy hour somewhere in the world. |

summer gets me to winter and winter gets me to summer. Even for a mountain boy like me that has made his permanant home at a ski area, I'm stoked on kiting and stoked on skiing and depending on what time of year it is, I could give one up for the other. So the only conclutition i have, is that one inspires the other........I also have to say that my kite family and my winter family are different, and I miss them both accordingly. However As i sit her looking out my window of my house, I realize that its almost winter, because its raining/snowing out right now. So don't make me choose. Its all special too me.
BUT SKIING ROCKS!!!!!!!
But then so does kiting........fuck!
i can't figure it out........DAMN YOU!!!!!!! |

4-5 feet of powder, get up to crater right when the sun comes over the hill, 15-20Kts.....heaven
although this insurance thing sounds like a good idea _________________ Southern Oregon Kite Addicts |

Used to be completely hooked on snowboarding. Then kiting came along and ruined it for me. Now unless there's 8 inches of fresh snow or more it doesn't seem to compare. (I still like riding the park/pipe, but it doesn't seem as exciting for as long as it used to). Although it's hard to beat being waist deep in some dry fluffy powder on a bluebird day . I'm thinking snow kiting can add some diversity and bring the two closer together. Bring it on! |

baja ...... yummy I may have to schedule a few weeks of that myself... Laventana??? waves would be nice though....
but those crater days when you can't see the trail your partners or anything is pretty exciting.. makes you wonder if anyone will get out alive... its a fine line taking machines way in where mothernature is trying to baracade off limits during massive winter storms...
warm is good though.... but being home at nights is a good bonus at the end of a good day. |

I have respect for both sports. I love snowboarding and being up in the mountains and nature with fresh powder and a steep slope. But kiteboarding definatly has a new and exciting edge for me. I think I'll do both sports till the day I die!! |

I have asked myself this on several ocasions - if I could only do one what would I do? Don't know. I love them both - for the same reasons and for different reasons. I totally get stoked snowboarding - landing higher and higher jumps!!!
But summer does get me to winter and winter gets me to summer. I anticipate them both very much!! Can't wait for the fresh snow! Can't wait for the season to start. However, at the end of snowboarding season I was dying to get on my kites.
For me - its the same I guess. I get stoked on both!! Maybe its like having to pick between blondes, brunettes, and red heads - how can you decide? I love them all!! |

Snowboarding is more fun. There is nothing I can do in kiting that gives me as big of a rush as spinning 7 over a 60 footer. Shits intense... _________________ Broken Safety

| How about smacking the lip of a mast high wave breaking over a reef? Yeah, snowboarding definitely requires more commitment to your moves since the consequences are much worse for the most part. |

I am a snob about the snowsports. Snow has to be fresh and deep. Kiting or windsurfing...I will take it anytime it's windy. I am driven by the challenge though and I peaked out and am now limited by my body on a snowboard. I won't do the park stuff that I used to do because the consequences are too great.
Now Mt Biking - with enough suspension travel everyday is a powderday
