That's pretty impressive that we have so many people here that are so awesome that they've never dropped a kite in the surf or gotten in someone's way in the process. Cause if you did, that would definitely make you a kook, right? You are talking about a gnarly break that is well known for eating people's lunches, even on surfboards. Are people are arguing that kiters aren't worthy of riding that break, or just that they're not allowed to crash while doing it? I'd love to see any of the smack talkers suit up and head out there. It doesn't matter what kind of kiter you are, you're going to pay your dues on that wave sooner or later.

We are fucking kooks. Look at us on the sand bar. "Board shorts over wetsuits", "strapless not straped", "get the fuck out of the kiddy pool if you suck". WTF.

I am going to have to agree with Dangler on this one.

Enough to know that a twin tip is not the right tool for the job. Kiting in the surf = directional, period. Twin tip in the surf = kook.

maybe you should come down to my break, most including me will use a twin tip

when is the break WON"T work with anything else,
And I would like to see YOU in it Razz

com'on down Cool

should 8' this wkd( might make it 20')

I guess since "most" are using twin tips, there must be some that aren't, which pretty much negates you're second point, that it won't work with anything else.

Not sure how riding waves with a surfboard is not possible to do at any surf break.

Do the surfers ride twintips too?

I did I say "most when won't work
the surf is not to good"

I guess I meanings stupid people are lucky trying to get by without be strapped are are lucky to be drug in ,or trying to gybe, and eat shit as well

surfboards are great , it's just more fun when
you can do (just about)anything you want with a TT.
A five foot TT can have a very similar profile with surfboard
so I don't why you are not digging TT.

Before everyone gets all personal, let me just say that Alex (Tautologies) is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, and there's not a person on this thread that wouldn't get along great with him in person. He's the first guy to help someone out at the beach (as is Dangler...) and has done an awful lot to help ensure that we all have a place to kite when we visit Hawaii. Alex gives the word "Euro" a good name. Thumb's Up Although I think he's more Hawaiian than Euro by now. Very Happy Lots of differences of opinion here, which is cool. Everyone has a valid perspective and it's great to hear both sides. Just remember that we'd all be happy to tip back a couple cold ones with each other at the end of the day...

pete you come down to blowhards break on a big windy day and show us kooks how to tear up that shizzle...all the surfers who kite will be on their twin tips watching you in the big stuff ..
it will be a hoot.

peace

and big may be relative by the way ..... like windy....

on big days its scary going out on a twin through the sets.

running a unmaned kite through the lineup sucks but is usually not the intention...

shit happens .... deal or go home .... the deal may be a knuckle sandwich...or worse..

95 percent of kiters I see are kooks and the others well....

*** NW FUIGHT ***

Yeah, we all crash, but he dropped in way out on the shoulder, then went for the big bottom to top turn, which was looking good until he just stuffed it into the wave face.... then dumps his kite. Probably not the guys best moment.

Pete, twin tip in the surf don't necessarily = kook bro! Laughing Although I am curious why he was on one..a good floaty board might have gotten him through that top turn. Laughing

Haha Blowhard, your screenname is the epitome of ironical monikers, Cause you walk the walk when most people only talk the talk. Keep rockin the tiny kites in the big surf, especially when its gonna "blow hard".

And if you ever wanna retire that name, there's a guy over on Iwindsurf with over 10,000 posts that really deserves that name.

There are feckin jet skis in the lineup! Tourist boats all over the place, sharks in the water. And if anyone is putting anyone in danger its every mother's son that ventures out...
for there be monsters out there.

And how are you gonna compare your little overregulated nanny island to the third world, (read real world) don't hold water.

You sayin Laird never towed in there, or promoted it, videoed it, virtually put it on the map? And now he's whining about how crowded it is?

I gotta get my dictionary and look up the definition of irony, and I'll brush up on the meaning of tautology as well.

No I am not saying Laird never towed....but there are ways of towing to make it safer for people involved. You tow because you want to ride big waves not because you want to duck cowboys. We ride plenty good sized surf over here with kites..that is not the issue, but you take especially good care to not screw up. You really do not need a kite and lines in a lineup (for many obvious reasons) when there are massive amounts of water moving around.

I'm not quite sure why it is not reasonable to compare...I'm guessing you just wanted play cool..but that is fine. Good luck with that attitude..it obviously are doing wonders for you. Wink
