Hi ,
Alberta is an oil province .
We have lots of coal too .
Coal mines suck to work in , they are dirty even before we use it to manufacture , heat and many other things .
We have lots of oil . The rigs are a dirty thing to work on but make many people lots of money .
The Tar sands have been mined for many years and will for many more ,
They even want to pump it to the US . Many are against the pipeline being built . There are many pipelines already . The people that protest these resources are driving their SUV's , cars and pickups to the protests . Driving to the grocery store , driving to work , driving kids to school and driving to the beach on weekends , or in our case on windy days to kite !
It seems the need for these far outweighs the need for clean air , rivers and lands .
I would have a hard time living without them as would you . Yes it can be done but at what cost ? Are we willing to pay , no not many would or do .
Yes it's dirty business these fossil fuels but until their gone we're all in self destruct mode .
Covered loads or not it's all bad ,or good , depending .

Yeah, there's no way we could survive or have any standard of living without selling vast amounts of our coal to the Chinese and damage our landscape along the way.

Meth seems like a good profitable business too. Why do these people stand in the way of progress? Laughing

Just a reminder.
This is coal being dug up in North America, shipped uncovered along our playground, and then exported over to China.

Doesn't matter if you drive a van, SUV or a tank.

Our main point of concern is the effect these uncovered trains have/will have on our playground, water and air.
The more trains they can fill, the more trains we will see continuing to travel through the Gorge.
Both train lines have long term plans to make double tracks on both sides of the river in this century.

Just some food for thought.

How does driving make me a hypocrite in regards to NOT COVERING TOXIC COAL TRAINS.
tHESE GREED HEADS ARE MAKING BILLIONS, YET DON'T WANT TO SPEND A LITTLE MONEY TO PROTECT YOUR HEALTH AND RESOURCES.

I'm not about to move into a cave and chew on roots and twigs, I'd just like to see a little responsible behaviour in regards to EVERYONES health and welfare.

UNCOVERED COAL TRAINS THRU THE GORGE SUCK ASSS!!!!!!!

Thanks to Obama and the EPA
They shut down our cleaner domestic coal fired electric plants.

What's a little coal dust anyway?
We breathe a lot more dust due to studded tires grinding asphalt.

Besides it is the NOISE that is the real pollution.
Constant low rumble of trains radiates all over
and I'm pretty sure it scares baby spotted owls.
