Please show me one objective study that proves that there is "coal pollution" ruining or will ruin someones way of life in the Gorge. How much dust will come off the train as it travel through the Gorge?

Looks like they are working on a study a little closer to your home beach, but don't hold your breath on the results Surprised

Hopefully the data will be solid so decisions will be made on facts instead of emotion. 19K does not seem like much money for a study, but, it is a start. Most likely he will accomplish the same amount as a government funded study but at a fifth of the cost.

Sounds like someone being little envious. Well, thanks to these regressives like Dangler who remain poor or Al Gore who is making loads of money by stopping real progress we all are probably couple of hundreds of years from where we could be and unfortunately we are still using fossil fuels to generate ever needed power. Power use means wealth and progress. Better standard of living. We all like to grab a cordless drill or turn the key to start our car. In Dangler's case a big gas guzzler. Maybe there is an opportunity to start doing something for the environment.

It is a big planet but its only one planet.
The coal mine is impacting the environment near the mine.
The coal processing yards are impacting the environment the yards.
The coal trains (and soon coal barges) are impacting the environment in The Gorge.
(Personal note: 125 car coal trains are heaver then most trains and unlike almost all other trains, you can feel them vibrate my house ¾ mile from the tracks. The number of coal trains is significant and if new terminals for ship loading are built their will be lots and lots more).
The Ships carrying the coal across the pacific are impacting the environment in the ocean.
When the coal gets to China, it is burned without technology that reduces pollution, impacting the local environment first and then the planet.
These impacts include land, water, air, and noise pollution.

This is a bad idea. Dirty fuel carried half away around the world to burn generates impacts that will harm all of use eventually. I try not hurt the planet with my actions, but in any case one coal train’s impacts are grater then the impact of my entire life by several orders of magnitude.

mark what your typing on took coal and ti took coal to bounce it around the planet to my laptop .
I am a tree hugging dirt worshipper too.......... we are all hypocrites with regards to such conversations ....... progress and sustainability .. oil and water.

If I dropped off the grid my life would still create waste..

Enjoy life , live simply , be happy ... try it.

If you've ever flipped on a lightbulb, or taken a ride in a car, you have no right to comment on any activity by any energy company.

Shut up and breathe your coal dust you wankers.

I was sitting in the parking area of the wonderbar and asked a friend what all these black little BB's were. We inspect them a little closer and they are coal BB's coming off the uncovered cars. Then we see a train coming and I count, just out of curiosity, 126 uncovered coal cars come zooming by at 40 mph. We couldn't see the dust, but if these BB's are flying off the train we are darn well breathing it! It boils down to corporate greed and we all get to pay for it with a dieing planet!

Speaking of sweet sessions, Mon afternoon was exceptional. I felt like I was 13 and all my buddies got out of school and we all met at the bridge for a free for all. The gorge is the greatest, lets keep it pristine!
