Since Hood River had a contest to name their new sandbar last year, I think it is only fair that Washington has a contest. The winner will receive an all expense paid trip to Husum!!! Rumor has it that the kiters in skamania county have been calling it the Underwood Sandbar(lame)! The kickitat crowd has been calling it the White Salmon sandbar(too long). So use your imagination and post your catchy names. So far Rick from WS is in first place with: "The Salmon Bar ". _________________ moondog |

O'go came up with "Unders" a few weeks ago. Kinda fits cause you go under the RR to get to it and it is in Underwood.
Or maybe "Karl's beach" since he is one of the original gorge kiters who now literally walks across the street after kiting there to take a shower at his place. |

Does it have to have "bar" in the name? I mean, why can't we have cool, bitchin names like all those skaters did down in California back in the 70's & 80's... rad, choice names, like "Dogtown"... we need a name that sort of infers some sort of disaster...
"Cutline"
"Rippers"
"Train Wreck"
"Ejectors"
"Drifters"
"PDX Monkey Boy's Dominatrix House of Pain, Shame & Humiliation"
that's all I can think of at the moment... |

Maybe something short and sweet, but descriptive for non locals, instead of something edgy and obscure. In fact I think 'hood river sandbar' fits quite nicely!... Idunno. I'm new here. _________________ If you're in PDX hit me up, I'm looking to meet kiters in town. I'm close in NW. |

The hood river sandbar was named: "The Hood River Sandbar", how original! My wife came up with a good one, "The Dam Bar"! _________________ moondog |

Officially named "Salmon Mousse by Gman and I. We were the first to kite it last year. Ps Monkeyboys owes us beer...... Salmon Mousse because near the Salmon, and it had the consistency of Mousse. We were sinking up to our knees in it.... _________________ Cleverly disguised as an adult...

Hmmm... that could work... but then it might be confusing because that was the original unofficial name for the old Hood River sandbar which got bigger and then became the "new Hood River Sandbar" for which, as the OP clearly stated, they held a similar naming contest last year, the result of which is still unknown, accept for those who do. The fact that the source river for said sandbar currently being considered for naming is the White Salmon could confuse the issue further, though it could also work to our advantage... future statements such as "windsurfers are respectively asked to steer clear of the kiters launching from the Hood River Sandbar" could potentially open up a full mile or so of river entirely to kiting, assuming full compliance by our pole-sporting brethren. I'm almost out of Red Bull... |

That's pretty good....and fitting. DamBar is good too. We already have the Sandbar but Luke's "Unders" is onto something......just add Bar and W.
The.....Wunderbar....
- walk under the bridge is wise for obvious reasons.
- Underwood is the backyard.
- We will always "wunder" if it will stick around....according to Monkey of course.
- The meaning is wonderful in German but works well when stated in english speaking countries too.
"You got a session in today??? How Wunderbar!!!"
"You stuck your toe in the water and your balls shriveled back up into your body? How Wunderbar!!!" |

How about Kite Bar. I rode by it yesterday and seen it loaded with kites. I thought I would land there and take a break but didn't see much room. |

"Breach Beach" since the sandbar was created by the breaching of the Condit Dam. |
