Interesting. I'm curious to know what people who have used both think of the difference between the first and second gen models. Especially the viewing angle adjustments.
I don't know a terrible amount of about lenses and photography but does the narrower field of vision option mean that it will be able to shoot stuff farther away without it becoming a tiny dot real quick? _________________ Captain kook; always wrong.

New HERO2 cameras are slated to arrive at retailers in about 3 weeks (website says next week, but it is likely incorrect).
Price for all of the kits is set at $299.99, same price as the original Helmet Hero Option
From what we have learned from our GoPro rep, is that the lens is a higher grade lens and the clarity/definition of the footage is improved via both the lens and the increase in FPS (frames per second).
Ideally, if you have the right software for editing and the screen for showing, the improved definition and clarity is impressive.
However, two other new items that might be of more impressive nature to note from GoPro are:
#1 Reason for new GoPro stoke > New WiFi bacpac accessories - Avlbl in Dec
Remote on/off switch via your iPhone (multiple camera control even for use with more than one camera).
And, you will also have the option of live-streaming via your camera to your computer.
That, I think is a sick addition to the GoPro program.
For use with the original 1080 GoPro and the new HERO2
#2 Reason for new GoPro stoke > You dirtbags will love this.
The regular GoPro cameras have all dropped in price between $40-70 each as of this week.
Helmet GoPro - Reg. Price $299.99 - New Price $239.99
Surf GoPro - Reg. Price $279.99 - New Price $229.99
Naked GoPro - Reg. Price $259.99 - New Price $199.99
960 GoPro - Reg. Price $179.99 - New Price $149.99

Just got my two new ones... Hoping for a least one nice sunny calm day before winter really sets in to see how much better the sandbar looks coming at you at 120mph... Or, hopefully a day with Matthias to huck Mississippi Head!

Ride bigger or go faster!
Nothing wrong with the Go Pro distortion/field of view. The wide angle is what makes the camera work so well because it puts the viewer in with the guy doing his thing.
Video don't lie and if its truly big... it will show...

I'm stoked for the picture every half second. The chances of getting a good one will be much better. Anyone know when they hit the shops?
Having your angle low will make the waves look a little more true to life...think of how low a photog in the water is.
If you're using a line mount get your kite low for better shots:

hey guys just came across the comparison video courtesy of www.eyeofmine.com.
looks like there are quite a few improvements with the camera.
kind of wish they re-thought their mounting system.
I'm expecting one today.

I got my hero2 last week.
I'm a little disappointing there is no FOV adjustment in 720@60p mode still. only 170 wide mode so far. maybe a firmware update will change this in the future?
The other thing I've noticed is that the Narrow FOV mode in 1080p is pretty grainy. I think this is because its using less of the sensor area to achieve a narrow FOV. Its not terrible but definitely noticable when compared to 720@60p which uses the full sensor area.
I haven't played around with all of the settings yet but these are the 2 things i've noticed so far.
The lens is definitely sharper then the Hero. Its not a huge difference but definitely enough to notice. I bought the Hero 2 primarily for the 11MP timelapse mode and the WVGA 120P mode which I haven't had a chance to try either yet. If you already have a Hero HD cam and you don't shoot timelapse or slo-mo I don't think its really necessary to upgrade unless you want the remote or must have the sharpest image possible.
