IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR EVENT SITE KITEBOARD ACCESS!!

On MONDAY Aug 1st we are back to our regular Pump and Dry Access at the Eastern section of the Event Site.
The Temporary Kiteboard Launching and Landing access at the Event Site concluded on Sunday, July 31.

Just a friendly reminder to our local and visiting kiteboard community, that the temporary Event Site Launch and Land Access will concluded on SUNDAY JULY31st. The Sandbar has been finally sneaking out from under the might Columbia and it looks so far like we will have adequate space for launching and landing for all users as long as we all work together to keep things safe and sane.

Good Work!
Thanks to CGWA, CGKA, and the Port Commission.
Also thank you to all the kiters who have kept your kites under control and kept the Event Site safe for all.

Please encourage our visiting kiters to get their kite low and get to the water as quickly as possible.
If we don’t let them stand around with kites at 12:00, we will all be safer.

Great news.

Also I would say it would be wise to encourage the not so experienced kiters to walk into the water before having their kite launched, and then to quickly swing the kite out towards the river.

Walking over the grass & into the water with your kite in the air is an advanced move for most people and we need to show the Port we can be super safe in this instance.

Big thanks to all for your hard work and efforts.
Though temporary it is a blessing.

Please spread the word that while on the water just out front of the Event site it is for getting in and out.Not for freestyle showboating.

It was busy today and people had a hard time finding a place to land their kites. A lot of people had to dump their kites on top of others because there was no room. People were tripping over kites trying to catch someone landing. It's an accident waiting to happen.

So as soon as someone catches your kite start winding up your lines. Now grab your kite and walk up closer to the parking lot. Make sure you leave an open area for people to run their lines.

With the water this high we all have to work together. No one wants to loose what little access we have. Thanks!!!!

Is there an option to extend the Event Site launching in the works or does everyone have to go back to the Marina this weekend?

It doesn't look like the water is going down any time soon.

We're meeting with the appropriate parties today, and will have more information before the weekend.

This is great news. Thank you CGKA! And a big thank you to the Port of Hood River.

I think it is key that all of us kiters show our appreciation to the CGKA by joining the organization that is making this happen.

and

It is key that all of us kiters show our appreciation to the Port of Hood River by paying to park when using the Event Site. Yesterday, I saw a few people still poaching the Event Site amenities by parking on the street. There is plenty of free parking at the Marina kiteboard launch site.

The NOAA is predicting a decrease in flow over the next 4 days:
06-17 491215
06-18 479248
06-19 460615
06-20 445392
06-21 443860

The level is independent of the flow but will most likely to drop 12 – 16 inches by Monday if the forecast is correct.

We are now back to our normal kite launch spots, The SandSpit Parking lot and the Marina Beach.

Drift launching from the Event Site would be probably the most dangerous and frustrating launch you could put yourself into, plus would set a pretty bad example as a representation of kiteboarding in the community.

The Marina Beach launch has been awesome actually, and in some opinions, much safer than the Event Site Launch.

Thank you for respecting the rules and the guidelines that the kite and windsport communities have worked out as best as possible for all users.
