Good lord willing and the creek don't rise....
Guessing we won't have a sandbar until it's well under 400K.
Also wondering if there's still sandbar out there,
Mark - you're out there the most.... what do you think.
P.S. Mark taught me to fly a kite and it's the best money I ever spent!

sooo drift launch only? or are the water levels supposed to reside?
just wonderin.

We are now back to our normal kite launch spots, The SandSpit Parking lot and the Marina Beach.

Drift launching from the Event Site would be probably the most dangerous and frustrating launch you could put yourself into, plus would set a pretty bad example as a representation of kiteboarding in the community.

The Marina Beach launch has been awesome actually, and in some opinions, much safer than the Event Site Launch.

Thank you for respecting the rules and the guidelines that the kite and windsport communities have worked out as best as possible for all users.

noted. thank you

Yes the sand bar is still there.
The hood river is carving a deeper channel at the kite killer tower, separating the spit from the bar.
The upstream edge of the kiddy pool is deeper and has merged with last year’s hood river channel.
There will be more shallows on the inside this year.

You can find the COE Forecast Model output here: http://www.nwrfc.noaa.gov/stp/stp.cgi

I just spoke with the person at the dam and the numbers in this morning's forecast model are are looking even more positive with this weeks weather warm up. They publish their model output every Tuesday and Friday morning.

so is drift launch in front of the event site banned or just bad practice? With the now weaker current could be more doable. if it is banned, how far from shore is allowed? For the after work crews, the Event site is under populated. Tonights wind favored a late return to the Event site.

Kudos to the Port, CGWA, and CGKA for working this out. It is much appreciated.

Are we allowed to rig our lines in the launching area? I like how the new system encourages people not to leave their gear in the hot zone, but it makes rigging lines a bit of a cluster f@$* due to the trees and lack of space if we can't rig in the launch area.

Kudos to everyone who encouraged the use of the Event Site during the high water. Especially to Boardin' Bobs beach efforts. Let's hope to get back there soon.

hey all,
i have about seven young nephews and nieces all flying in from the east coast, and i am going to give them some kiteboarding lessons. they have never heard about kiting so i am pretty excited! I am planning on teaching them at the top of the event site, so that they will have some room to float down if they crash the kite. the only thing is that they are a little iffy on swimming. if someone could loan me some lifejackets for all of them it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

take them to Jones so they can actually enjoy the learning experience instead of waiting for a window to take advantage of!!!! Way better place to learn in my opinion. they can do a 1/4 downwinder and still have nice sand to get out on. more consistent wind too!!!

Best to just ignore the trolls, maybe they'll just go away and stop wasting peoples time.
