Ok, not really. Just an Oregon native coming home for some fun.
Hi all,
I'm going to be in Oregon to help my Dad with a remodel this June. Plan to work with him for about a week and then take a week-10 days to get some riding in. I started kiting after I left Oregon so I haven't done any riding up there. Obviously H.R. is a given but I know there is a lot more great spots.
Looking for input on spots not to be missed while I'm there. I get plenty of surf action here in Santa Cruz so I'm mainly interested on flatwater spots as I dont have any close to home. I don't expect anyone to give up their secret spots but any input would be great. I'm bringing an 8m, 9.5m and a 11m so I'm good on wind from about 12kts to more than I want to ride. I plan to spend a few days in the gorge for sure and then maybe hit some other areas as well.
Also looking for input on camping spots. I have a VW westy so all I really need is a place to park and maybe bathrooms. I'm looking at maybe the Hostel across the river from H.R. as a cheap option. Any feedback on it?
Thanks in advance! Any and all help will be remembered and should anyone want to come down this way I'll gladly share info on the local scene.

Best uncrowded flatwater spot around as far as I'm concerned. You have to kite over to the flatwater though. Only problem is rednecks on 4wheelers. There is also camping there. |

Thanks, Jones is on my list for sure. Amazing photo in that link! Images like that make me wonder why I ever left Oregon, but that's a whole other topic.
Just to clarify...When I say flatwater I'm not trying to limit myself to just butter, I just mean anything but surf. I guess I consider the gorge flatwater even though it can have pretty good sized wind waves. Perhaps another term would be more clear, I just may be unaware of the terminology...
Thanks again...looking forward to some great riding while I'm home! |

Start in Stevenson and work your way east. Finish your trip at 3 mile canyon, about 15 miles past Arlinton |

.......bump
Heading out Tues. I'll be in P-town for about a week then heading east.
Couple of questions:
My smallest kite is an 8m delta. Lots of depower but wondering if I'll be bummed if I don't pick up a 5 or 6.
How cold is the water now, 4/3 cold or 3/2 cold?
Thanks all. Looking forward to getting some!

3/2 suit is plenty now. I don't bother with 5m or 6m anymore. If it's more than 7m can handle, I change location or time of day _________________ CGKA Member |

Can't beat the view from the Lyle rest area. Free to park and sleep and you can check all the bald eagles soaring below. |

I'm in P town today. Any chance SI will blow this afternoon? I can't get out to the gorge yet but I'm really want to get on the water.
Also, are there any kite shops in town? Want to pick up a new harness.
Thanks all. |

Ya the clouds aren't a good sign but as long as the pressure gradient keeps up it should be boardable. I'd check the wind before you head out. _________________ Captain kook; always wrong. |

Decided to keep working. Wind didn't look all that great. Let's hope tomorrow picks up! |

Sorry guys. Guess I brought the travelers curse with me. Figures I leave home to come up here and there's no wind. Arrrrrg. I sure hope this pattern improves later in the week! |
