I meant to post this ealier but been busy. This past Sunday, I was disgusted with what I saw and you dog lovers may feel the same. I saw some A-hole kicked a golden retriever because the dog was sniffing his dog. The guy kicked the dog so hard that it yelped and I heard it over a 100 feet away. Following this incident, the owner of the golden retreiver(Chris) ask the guy what his(A-hole) problem was in kicking his dog. The A-hole responded with "your dog should be on a leash and added that Chris should go back to Portland or whever he came from". I am not sure who this A-hole was but he was older guy and had a dog which looked like a mix of Australian sheppard and something else. Anyways, point being if you have a problem with a dog, take it up with the owner not the dog...

Why the fuck can't HR police hand out out a few tickets to those who don't leash dogs? What the hell are they paid for? Isn't most of their tax money derived from tourists?

HR is becoming the next Compton. Sandbar shootings Laughing

I am not defending kicking a dog, but, isn't the dog supposed to be on a leash? If so, maybe Chris will think twice before letting his dog run free where it is not allowed.

Unleashed dogs on the beach is getting to be more of an issue. This sh*t is going to come to a head soon.

I know there are some people wanting the authorities to step in and fix the problem. But do we really want people trying to resolve the issues on the sandbar? Be careful what you wish for, cus you have no idea what it might bring about next.

And for the folks that want to kick dogs - there are animal cruelty laws in place.

what's with the GOlden retrivers?

A(CRAZY?) couple from Montana just spent a week here with a golden retriever

It would bark and chase people around on the beach ,the very nice aussie female owner informs us that in OZ, NO dogs are allowed on the beach,

The next to last day she was here she comes up to us with said dog,
first thing the dog does is attack my wifes Boxer which is a very polite dog ,(But will shake a 60 lb raccoon to death)
her response was " it won't harm your dog" and does nothing ,not even to tell it to stop!
as the fuker is biting our dog
so I say to her
either you control your fuking dog or I will
she acts a little surprised and walks away
jesus
so the next day she comes up and thanks us for being so friendly and invites us to her spot in OZ,acts like nothing happened wtf?

so the only conclusion I can think of is that dogs ARE just like thier owners ,and are clueless about social interactions
(her other half never spoke to anyone the entire time they were there)

so thier vicious (harmless) dog bites other dogs and gets away with it

I saw a story on the tube the other day about a woman who leaned into a vehicle to hug an old friend and his dog went nuts and bit the womans lower lip OFF.

Apperently in Oregon a dog can bite once without any repercussions, but the second time you are guilty ,this dog had never bitten anyone on record and was NOT liable ,so this woman ends up with no lower lip because her insurance could not sue the dog owners and the bill for the lip fix was over $250K,so she is shit out of luck,
I was bitten by a dog when I was 4 years old in the face many times with lot's of stitches
So if your dog fuks with me or my shit I might punt it out of the way (without hurting it,hopefully) dogs understand a bigger dog laying down the law ,something some people can't do is say NO to a dog
And if the owners need thier ass kicked we can take that up later

fukin losers and thier dogs

Hard to imagine that people have dogs that are not social beings ,when they bring them around strangers or anyone for that matter

There is no problem with enforcement. If you call animal control, they will come down and hand out tickets, capture loose animals. If you called the cops on the guy, and were willing to be a witness, he would have gotten an animal cruelty charge.

There is a problem with patrolling the beach. The Event Site is Port of Hood River property, and the Port has no law enforcement. They have discussed the idea of funding patrols by the Hood River Sheriff's office, but it has not happened yet. When it does happen, it's not likely to be a good situation for anyone.

The Port is bringing an Event Site host onboard as we speak, so that could help.

Moto hit the nail on the head, and as much as some of you hated the Event Site host, I'd much prefer that solution than having to fight for pump and dry access again. Dogs are not a kiter problem, they are an Event Site problem, but that's not necessarily how it could be viewed come time for the Port to review the situation next spring. They've had windsurf sails and dogs there for decades without escalation, so let's hope people reading this who may be partially responsible step up and do what's right.

I spoke with a bunch of sailors on the west end. Same problem, maybe even worse. Dogs running over expensive slalom sails, boards etc. I think many of the loose dogs end up on the east (kite) end because of the beach, regardless of where their owners set them free.

A thought: maybe the CGKA could proactively bring up the issue through the Port's waterfront committee and ask for advice and/or help? If sailors are having problems as well then maybe a coordinated conversation with the CGWA and Port? Maybe bring it up in the context of an Event Site host while on that subject at one of the meetings? Again, I see it as an Event Site problem and not a kiter problem, and it would be detrimental for the Port to perceive it as the latter. While we are lucky to have access there, we are still their paying customers, and they are elected public servants (the commissioners that is). Agreed, though, it's a diplomatic line between how much we want to show up on the radar and how much weight the problem really bears. (My personal opinion is irrelevant, mind you; just posing an option here).

Incidentally, I've had dogs run over my wave sails on past occasions but never any damage; kites are much more vulnerable than even race sails.

Another option: we could keep posting about it year after year for an endless source of entertainment at work! Wink

the Port is aware, and "Dogs" are on the agenda for the next meeting. At least two members of the Port Board read both NWKite and iwindsurf on a regular basis.

Here in Alaska- we have our local launch beach which is also a dog hangout.
The truth is every dog owner knows exactly how their dog will react in every situation.
The ability to let their dog just run amuk knowing full well what they may do is just plain careless and irresponsible. I have a dog and I know what he does on the beach- so I let him run free while I am kiting- consider it his social time.
On the other hand- If somebody's dog happens to be one of those creep over and piss and stomp on kites kind- I will have to set it in place (NO KICKING INVOLVED) just good old fashioned get the hell out dogg.
I haved kited the event site- unleashed dogs are a hazard and a pain in the ass!
