I meant to post this ealier but been busy. This past Sunday, I was disgusted with what I saw and you dog lovers may feel the same. I saw some A-hole kicked a golden retriever because the dog was sniffing his dog. The guy kicked the dog so hard that it yelped and I heard it over a 100 feet away. Following this incident, the owner of the golden retreiver(Chris) ask the guy what his(A-hole) problem was in kicking his dog. The A-hole responded with "your dog should be on a leash and added that Chris should go back to Portland or whever he came from". I am not sure who this A-hole was but he was older guy and had a dog which looked like a mix of Australian sheppard and something else. Anyways, point being if you have a problem with a dog, take it up with the owner not the dog...

In addition to Eric's comment about this being a point of discussion at the next Port of Hood River meeting, it should be known that the first part of these meeting is open to the public for comment and constructive suggestions.

As a member of the Waterfront Rec Committee, I will ask that the committee ad this line of discussion to their agenda during the next bi-annual meeting (likely in the Fall).

The Port of Hood River is very much aware of this on-going issue and it will be discussed at the next Waterfront Rec Committee meeting (tenatively scheduled for the middle of August).

What I'm looking for are constructive, do-able suggestions on how to deal with this issue. Enforcement has/is/will always the issue. It seems that Animal control is making more patrols but they aren't able to be there all of the time. Event site hosts are trying to make a difference but again they can only do so much and only at the Event Site.

Do we consider a complete ban at the Event Site and Sandbar? Can we legally ban dogs on the Sandbar? How about different times and/or dates? Designated dog area? Who's going to pay for it, maintain it, police it, provide insurance for it?

PM me or contact me personally. I'm looking for suggestions

... I say ban the dogs... just like Kiters have been banned from particular beaches. Dogs have a nice large lot to roam south of the Event site. Just enforce a mandatory leash law so they don't come running across the road to defecate and destroy. That is my opinion. Too bad for my dog, but wont hurt him to stay home.

I think the best thing to do is the same as we did at the sandbar a couple years ago.

Leave some rope out there and if you find a dog being crazy, grab them and tie them up (call animal control if you want to). When their owner come over give them a talking to about it and tell them to stop being a dumb ass.
