Oh and shred-da-gorge i think i will definately start on land. We have this place in the town of Westport called potato hill seems like a great place to learn to fly the kite. Big open space and lots of hills. Then and only then will i be able to shred da gorge.

Seriously, just take a lesson. All of your questions will be answered.

And then you'll stop sounding like such an idiot.

Yeah, there are plenty of us who snowboard with our kites on the forum. Southern oregon has some spots and a lot of dudes go to Idaho in the winter time.

Do you needs lessons to have a baby? Where does it end,
Did you take a lesson monkey person?

yes monkey person took lessons as people told me I needed to. I took lessons from Amery in 2002. I had two kites a 10m fuel in which the "depower" in the bar did nothing and a 12m torque that if you stopped flying it while it was overhead it would Hindenburg. There were no donkey dicks, no chicken loop releases, and no spinning leashes. If you pulled the release the kite would death spiral and you HAD to self rescue. Jesus we swam allot in the early years.

I have benefited from the wealth of information from this site. Time to help with the heavy lifting on this one. Even if it's just one more brick in the "Great Wall of Get-a-Lesson" it's a good wall to build.......

Even if you are a troll Ben - you've brought into existence the ben944 thread, which will soon be legendary and read by a lot of new kiters. I'm a new kiter on the oregon coast so I recognize the spell that you have come under. I have the benefit of coming through other outdoor-oriented helmet sports so I can temper that spell with a little common sense and some basic math skills.

You are now interested in an activity that allows you to leave the surface of the earth on a regular basis. This is called flying. If you generally read anything about flying it involves an incredible amount of technical information and a healthy dose of helmet use. Flying usually involves the precise management of an energy source for successful take-offs and landings. Throughout human history there is a relatively long record of bad things happening during this process.

It's best to learn this process by learning to fly with experienced pilots. If you don't think this sport really deserves the rigor of a little flight training, then you are badly mistaken. Kiting is just a figment of your imagination right now. Once you get your kites in the mail you'll be one step closer to kiting nirvana. And once you get there ....never ever want to leave.

A variation on the climbing cliche..."there are bold kiters and there are old kiters, but very few old and bold kiters." Once you pass safely thorough the initial learning process of kiting there will be plenty of opportunity to do bold things. Don't rob yourself early of the possibility of enjoying this sport for a long time by fucking up your knee learning to launch at kite. This is bad style and poor form. Put a very high price on your health and safety and everything will fall into place on this one. You won't get hurt. People on the beach won't get hurt and you'll have a lot of fun. Instruction is the key brother. Swallow your pride and admit you don't know shit about flying and find the right people to train you. Work five jobs if you have to. Good instruction usually involves money. Get good instruction.

As other kiters here have pointed out time and time again......this sport is not cheap. Pony up my man. 'Cause either way you're gonna pay.

Also spend a little time learning to use the search function here. You can do it. There is very good information here about kiting, masturbation, and gear selection for various activities including s&m. You will look forward to seeing unicorns everyday.

(Thanks to all the folks here at NWKite......to the people that run the site and all the experienced people willing to post up their experiences. I have benefited greatly. I know y'all just think we just get it on with sheep down here but don't be scared..... Just a few of us and the landlord at Pistol........beers all around when you show.....)

Sweet thread. . .nicely worded. Remember, the three biggest lies of a Southern Coastie:

1) my Mercedes Benz 2500 TD Sprinter Van is paid off.
2) I won this surfboard in a kiteboarding contest.
3) Honest, I was just helping that sheep over the fence. Laughing

Cold beers and strong winds to you all.

Yes nicely put AEOLUS, and i may be a troll in some ways, trolling for bits of information to help me do something that i feel compelled to do. But not in the sense that you all were implying. People learn to do things many different ways, my way has always been to watch whatever it may be as much as possible. then ask questions as needed and apply what i have learned on my own. May not be the best way to learn but it works for me. I under stand your concern, and everyone else's concern about safety, and the benefits of taking lessons. It's not a money thing or an ignorance thing, it's just the way i do things. I will however for the safety of others learn to fly the kite well, before i come in contact with the general public. With a little help from all of you i know i can do it.

I agree that people learn in many different ways and doing research ahead of time is a very good thing. So here you go........http://www.kiteboardingevolution.com/index.html Buy a trainer and have at it. Best gear investment I've ever made. Fly it till you puke then go buy a lesson. Very Happy
