Hey, thinking about maybe hitting up Idaho later this week or next week if conditions look good. I can't make the Snowkite Soldier event so figured I'd try this instead. I know a couple guys posted about cruising out there. If someone wants to carpool and share a room lemme know.

Monty and the rest of the crew, any advice on forecasts to check for the conditions? Also, would you guys wanna meet up and ride?

Thanks.

What a week it’s been so far, I’ve logged four sessions and one blue bird ski day up on the local hill (but didn’t see the owner Bruce Willis). This week was reserved for scouting out new found areas in the valley. I’ve driven over 400 miles dialing in different locations and aspects for different wind directions. The beginning of the week was pretty flat light and light easterlies, nothing to freak out on. Yesterday was stronger but we found two dozen other riders at “Last resort” , got a chance to meet some local boys and got some great action from cornice wind lip hits. But today was off the charts, I’m in awe of how good it can get out here in Fairfield, ID. After meeting a few ranchers and getting to know some “big fish” I got permission to kite a 140,000 archer ranch up in the hills. Bowls, gullies, flats and perfect up hill wind for some big taste flights. I have no pictures to prove this snowkite heaven exists (I was solo again) but use your imagination and trust me, it does!

hey gene,

you can contact David at Solider Mountain Ranch... I was working with him on opening up some employee cabins for my clinic in February over there, and well management bought-off on it, and has extended it to the general public.

So, each cabin sleeps 6 people, it has a full kitchen and several bathrooms... The cost is $15.00/night per person, and it's like a "hostel"... So, you may sleep with 5 other people, or you many not, it's the luck of the draw I guess. But, that is an option for you if you are interested....

Just let him know I told you about it...

See ya,
Boarderchick

It's blown atleast 12mph 15 of the last 20 days, don't trust the Federal Govt--especially NASA or NOAA.

Trust the Mormon's and their data at: http://mesowest.utah.edu/cgi-bin/droman/meso_base.cgi?stn=ITD51&product=&time=LOCAL

This is real-time data not a forecast, you can see exactly what's happening at the Pine Turnoff (center of the Camas Prairie) at any given moment.

To view the Camas Webcam, click here: http://hb.511.idaho.gov/cameras/Pine_Turnoff.html

Word up--it's been nuketastic lately!!!

Maybe after they tell us the truth about the moon landings, JFK, 9-11, and Roswell we can start trusting NOAA?

Thanks for the info, cya soon!

Love to join you but I've got an avalanche certification course in Stanley, Idaho next weekend. A local from Fairfield was just killed in an avalanche out of Hill City, pretty close to kite base camp(not a kiter). Need to invest some time, brush up my avalanche skills and keep myself, friends and clients safe. I know this about wind, if I'm not there it will blow so plan your trip.

How to predict and forecast wind here in Idaho....and it has nothing to do with the amount of land I have access too:) Everything I know about this place tells me to just plan a trip and expect wind. I've got 8 years under my belt and I can tell you that if it is not blowing in one location, it is blowing somewhere very near. Forecasts rarely read 18-23 out of the northwest. Weather forecasts from NOAA are real general. SW@ 4=SW@19. NW@6=NW18. Just one of those things you get use to. Places to kite in every given wind direction, blown out here, go here. Light here, go here or no wind anywhere, time to ski or board at Soldier. Give me a ring before you head up and I'll give you a run down of what I look for and my best prediction for the weekend. I'll get you dialed.
