Mnt Saint Helens works from time to time, but a sled helps to get above tree line.

Hey W&W,

Pretty tough pickin's around the NW. Last year we made the trip to ID with no regrets. If we're talking park and ride...no sleds...here's what I know..

If we get a good snow around PDX you can get a taste at places like Willamette Park, Blue Lake Park, and I think there is some potential of HWY 26 in the Hillsboro area.

Within 2 hours you have Dalles Mtn and surrounding peaks. Some other Gorge rim spots and HR valley spots that I have never tried.

There's Timberline to the left of Palmer. And as the SOKA crew has just reminded us, some goodness down south in the Ashland area.

Last winter the coast range seemed to hold it's pack forever...but I have no idea.

Anyone tried Powell Butte when the snow is that low? Does Goldendale airport close in the winter? What is the story with Camas? It seems to me that with really nothing but desert beyond Hood River there must be high plains and dry powder closer than Idaho?

Yeah we thought about trying east oregon on our way back form Idaho last winter. The highway has a ton of snow drift barriers. Guessing there is a good amount of snow and wind then. We were around La Grande/ Baker City. Still a long drive but it could be a good weekend trip if you leave friday night and roll back sunday night.

Yeah I think it probably could setup closer than Camas Valley, but last two times we went I didn't see snow until we were all the way there.

SolFlyer's spot looks sick, how far is that? Very Happy

Yeah, both times I drove to ID last winter, North Powder looked awesome! That's right in between LaGrande and Baker City at the turn off to Anthony Lakes. The East wind was cranking right up the foothills there and you could see access roads from I-84. There's even a road cam right there.

Nice find Slither Exclamation
Saved that link, hope to see a ton of snow on that cam some time this winter for some more Oregon snowkiting exploration. If it craps out Idaho is only 3 more hours down the road Idea

No need to go all the way up to palmer. Best place I've found is right above treeline. Mt Hood rock's!!

I posted earlier with pic's. Check out http://www.nwkite.com/forums/t-12252.html&highlight=
