I think it is made of some polycarbonate.
Not that cheap really.
Think it either would need to be formed by heating with special tools/molds, or you would have to pay $$$$ to get inches thick slab, and $$$$ to your friendly neighborhood CAD/CAM guy to CNC it.
And then you could polish it, and polish it, and polish it....
Oh and you realize the stuff sinks, right?
Costs thousands, invisible and sinks =the ultimate kiteboard.
I want one already.
But yeah I still think the idea's kinda cool in spite of it all.... Try callling a plastic supply house in the nearest city,
maybe consult guys that machine or form plastc,
maybe ones that like to build boat windshields or bullet resistant windows....
Good luck. |

| sbckiteboard.com wrote: | SBC Kiteboard has a story about it in this issue. It's also online: Acrylite Kiteboard. My understanding is that it is called plexiglass in Germany, but it's not the same as the material known by that name in the US. That is why the Youtube video calls it plexiglass.

ya it definitely says "Cost of the Acylite prototype project? $10,000!" and thats kinda a lot of money to pay for a board that will either get lost or sink. but it is still a cool concept and if someone knows of another material that could factor out the sinking possibility of the board it would be awesome, and maybe lessen the price a bit.

P.S. Thanks for all the hospitality from everyone during the Industry demo. |
