Yes, you are a very good kiter (in fact, one of the best), and as such, you should know better than to attempt to launch your kites from the boat pier.

These actions can jeopardize the access rights for the local kite community at the Event Site. There has been a lot of hard work put in by volunteers over the past 4 years to obtain access at the Event Site for kiteboarding and it would not be pleasant to know that the actions of one visiting pro kiter effected our access negatively.
As you experienced, launching behind the New Wind building and on the downwind edge of the pier did not work, and your kite hindenburging into the boat pool was visible by everyone in the parking lot.

I am hopeful that Jim or Corey have already informed you of this, and if so, then please disregard my post.

Please try to represent your brand in Hood River in a more positive manner.

I'm not calling you out, but just trying to remind/inform you of the local access issues that are at stake.

Thank you
Pepi

Had a similar issue with said kiter (guessing the pro you are talking about) back east in cape cod. Very sensitive area to piping plovers and the locals have to fight tooth and nail to keep what little access they have during nesting season. After being told not to kite in a flat water estuary he goes and rides there anyways causing a huge uproar with the local bird protectors. Just cuz you throw down doesn't mean you can do whatever you want. Smarten up and play by the rules like everyone else.

I know what said kiter Pepi is talking about, and not only did that one do it, but around 4:30pm yesterday another kiter on a brand that is not a "locally sold" brand did the exact same thing, and everyone in the spit and event parking lots as well as on the sand were watching this person... They had their kite in the air were looping it and other things while standing behind new winds trailer. They, then boost into the air and off the pier and take off from there... They then turned around and then went back and forth in that little area for a bit... Then, not sure if they went kiting in the channel or not didn't want to watch, it was RIDICULIOUS! There were a couple of port vehicles hanging around there yesterday and one of them was just at the spit when this occured!

So tired of this BS....

... said kiter ...another kiter on a brand

Way too much dancing and not enough naming. Throw out a name and their sponsor.
Why give so much respect to someone that does not respect the local rules?

When many did not like Bonetti's actions they put pressure on Kitenaked. I would do the same with these guys.

What a bunch of localisim BS (not everyones coments), yes they shouldnt be doing these things but it has nothing to do with the brand people ride. I see Slingshot riders everytime I am in HR pulling off jackass moves. In fact last weekend a Black/Silver slingshot rider riding with his kite very low dove his kite right into a windsurfer knocking him into the water then proceeds to ride off without even checking on the individual or his equipment. Guess I put the blame on slingshot for that one Smile

If you want to call someone out for their riding, whatever . Just dont turn it into brand bashing, especially when you dont blame your "local" slingshot brand for some of the idiot riders that purchase their kites

Except that those are slingshot riders, not the owners of the company-big difference.

I think you may have missed the point. If someone is riding for a brand (not just riding the brand) then they are fair game. The Bonetti example illustrated my point (although it was not about beach access). There is nothing the matter with pressuring the sponsor to get their rider to respect local rules that help protect beach access.

You can call the riders sponsor(s) and politely ask them not to send their rep/rider to Hood River if they are going to act in a way that jeopardizes access to local riding spots. If the sponsor gets 10 calls or emails you can be sure it will get back to the rider. Playing softball in these situations when you need to play hardball is a mistake in my opinion.

I am from Seattle, so, I am not a local. I will be spending about 10 days in the Gorge. I hope to do this in the years to come. I do not want anyone to lose access anywhere to their beaches. If you are not vigilant the domino's will start falling. You will be crying in your milk like everyone else when you lose access to a beach.

Lyle is a perfect example of what will happen elsewhere. If people behaved In a more conscientious manner, the railroad may not have come down so hard.

In general Pacific Northwesters to play too nice which does not work in situations like this. There is nothing the matter with naming names.

This is the exact type of attention (i.e. free marketing and advertisement) Best Kites hopes for from these types of antics.

Either that or he is just a bonehead… Laughing

I am not sure what you point is here. The conection between me buying best kites in the past and current actions of a best rider are irrelevant. However, who better to contact Best than someone who actually buys their products? They have a customer that appears to be loyal to their brand. I am the last customer they want to lose.

My point about naming names was not just about this issue. It was a comment on how these types of issues should be handled

I am glad someone actually named the rider.
