| I don't like the closed toe style, just feels weird to me, and they are a real pain to get on and off |

Were they the closed toe style that has the liner, or just a regular pair of boots with closed toes?
Was thinking about a pair of closed toes for the colder months in the fall/spring |

Its so cool to hear so many people talk about boots like this.
Don't let the crashes scare you.
It will hurt if you go fast in straps too.
It just sucks popping or landing in straps when you're going fast.
And about getting your feet higher in a railey, don't try to force your feet up.
Just go fast, pop hard, and keep your kite low and it will happen.
If you force your feet up it looks chipey.
And C kites rule.
Everyone who is a proficient rider now and hasn't ridden one in a while should go try one again. _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/10069384@N05/sets/ |

Liner, every time I tried to pull my foot out the liner would come out with it... felt like a goober.
I really liked the rear entry style ones, easy in easy out... hmm that sounds wrong
I tried Forrests Synergy's and those feel pretty good too |

My first pair of boots were the CWB rear entry but they were really heavy and lasted about 4 sessions in the salt water. I see the guys with the liners struggeling a lot, seems like the simple closed toe boots w/o the liner are a lot easier getting in and out.
Would really like to get a pair of Ronix boots but the $450 price tag makes me cringe |

Closed toe is so much better, when you land hard your foot doesn't spit out the front. Closed toe also provides better support per ounce of weight due to the dome shape of them. I ride Shanes for wakestyle and Synergys for the sliders.

I thought about the closed toe but it kind of reminded me to much of a snowboard boot. Plus I like feeling the water on my toes and it also flushes any sand out which I would think could get painfull quick but I dunno.
What I like about boots so far:
Sooooo much control and the ability to use brute force when you want
Very comfortable
Feel really secure
No fear of loosing the board
Very "precise feeling" ie the board responds when you move.more like snowboarding
Things that are not so great:
Not as easy to get in and out of but it's not that big of deal.
Less fredom of movemnt or "surfy feel"
When I edged really hard in chop, a few times I drug the boots in the water and stopped
No ability to jetison the board if things go wrong in the air
If you ever thought about trying them you should. I have beenasking myself lately....wakeboards never came with straps why did kite boards?
Anybody know? |

Wakeboards actually did have straps for about .02 seconds back in the day. You can probably thank windsurfing for the presence of straps in kiteboarding though. _________________ Order your copy of Present Tense today at http://cineaptic.bigcartel.com/product/present-tense-dvd |

I dunno I might be totally out of touch but isn't this boot kind of fugly?
Does it have removable liners? because if it does they'd probably be pretty sweet UGG's |

| No removable liners in the Shane's, yes they're ugly but they work so good! Ya'll try not to form to many opinions about what you think works well until you've spent a season on boots. There is a reason most of us are riding closed toe now. |

Kiteboarding probably started with straps because back when kiting started wakeboarding boots still sucked royally. Though there were still some that wore boots from the beginning.
I remember trying to steer my Naish Aero (2002 C kite) one handed at the sandbar while putting dish soap into my Darin Shapiro bindings. Those things were awful, after 20 minutes my feet felt like they had been pounded with a mallet.
A couple of years ago I got a newer wakeboard (for wakeboarding only) and the bindings are so much more comfortable and functional now. BTW, does anyone want a (pratically) brand new Shaun Murray Hyperlite Wakeboard/Bindings? $200... I have used the thing twice... I will put it up in classifieds. Got to raise some funds if I am going to get some kite wake gear like the the cool kids.

Closed toe is the shit!!! I was reserved about switching to em too, but now I hate going back to open toe. The closed toe are more responsive and lock your foot in better. I thought sand would be an issue too, but I seem to actually get less sand in since it doesn't flush in through the toe area. Even if you get some sand in you can flush it out in deep water pretty easily.
Shane's are pretty nice, but I prefer the Watsons personally. They have more support and are more responsive. The LF boots don't come with removable liners so don't be too quick to judge Phil before you try some other boots.
PMB, since boots allow for so much more leverage it is possible to drive the board much more. Typically if you can drive the board so hard that it sinks into the water pretty easily you're riding a board that's too small. For your weight I think your 137 board is probably not quite big enough. Also, it might take a bit of getting used to since straps require so much more effort.
Like Forrest said, it's gonna take a while and you'll wonder at times if it's better or worse and then one morning you'll wake up and realize that you can't go back. _________________ The Slider Project, LLC

I can't decide which would be more socially humbling .... roller blading or wearing those boots.
It doesn't really matter because if they work well, then they work well. But if I was on the senior review team, and somebody put a slide of these up I think I would tell that person to go grab some boxes and clean out there desk. |

Thanks for the info gene, are you sure you don't like the Watsons more because they don't look like clown shoes?

I don't know maybe if I wore the multi-colored boots people would be too busy laughing at my boots too make fun of my lame ass attempts on the slider
Have to always look on the positive side of things. |

Hmmm, there is that. Or people could say "why can't that guy hit the slider/" and his friend would say "what do you expect, look at his boots."
I think if you have a pair of those boots, you should always make plans to ride near Forrest. |
