It's not a question of lazy, it's a question of being to tall for the small pump that they provide. I have to kneel down in the sand and put it between my knees to pump it up. It gets old after a while. Some people are vertically challenged. It's not a problem for them. It was probably designed by a vertically challenged person. It's time that someone makes one for us non vertically challenged people. I though about using my 13 qft bottle. But that whole set up is over $200. If someone stole it, I wouldn't be happy. I just want a cheap 24" pump. That's all.

Like Mike said, the '09 Slingy pumps are bigger as well, but still not 24"...

Regarding the question of using scuba tanks instead of the CO2 tank.

We do sell a high presssure AIR tank (47 ci - 3000 PSI) as well as the CO2, but it doesn't work as well as the CO2 tank- you don't get as many fills and its a bit heavy of a tank due to the high pressure. The beauty of the CO2 tank is the liquid to gas phase change has a liquid to gas volume change of over 1 to 500.

Regarding the valve on the kite or the tank - we don't have one for the kite and that would be somewhat helpful - but since we use a regulator and a venturi value - the chance of blowing up the kite is almost imposible - once you get up to about 10 PSI the air starts to back flow out of the venturi.

Regarding the value on the CO2 tank - that doesn't add any value because the tank is at a constant 800 PSI as long as there is any liquid in it - so to tell if the tank is empty you have to weigh it - somewhat of a anoiance but not too bad. We have a six pack carrier and I take six tanks out to the beach when I go and only have to refill every couple of week. For the Air tank there is a valve on it that tells you whats left in the tank.

Hope that helps.

Things I hate about pumps:

SS makes a pump for midgets.

Pumps not made for extreme cold.

Airtime makes LE bladders with tiny "slit" in valve that takes so much pressure it broke two pumps.

Pump Gauges usaully unreliable.

Pumps inlet plastic piece breaks off.

Toss your pump more than two feet and it will breaK.

Can't anyone make a decent pump with height and quality parts?

nsi? Make some money with this.

What about getting a rubber hose for a regular kite pump - those damn plastic ones keep getting wholes in them. Anyone know where to get a rubber hose?

Auto parts store or McMaster Carr

NSI and I released a hose kit that featured a 90 degree adapter with a pressure gauge and used a braided hose with machined brass fill a nipple. It was before any kite companies were offering gauges on their pumps. It's not for sale anymore but I still have materials on hand so if you want to stop by I'll make one up for you.

Thanks for the offer Hein - I'll try and find something, but if I can't find anything I'll hit you up.

Huh? just picked up on this post. Pardone the sarcasm nothing personal, I'm sure frenchy is a great guy and I can't wait to meet him . Ok frenchy is big folks, he's too big to kite NOT because kiting has been specifically invented only for midgets to enjoy but b/c he just can't get past step 1 without a little whining. Dude, there are big people who kite. I've never heard them cry about pumping up their kites. Anyone here been so friggin burnt out from multiple backtoback days of kiting that you can barely pump your kites up? We make it happen, take one for the team. Its hard work having so much fun man. Maybe basketball is your sport??

WOW! Sorry white man can't jump. I never liked basketball. It's just awkward for me. I don't like being on my hands and knees to pump the kite. Not winning, just hoping for a little taller pump. Most people use a 9 or smaller kite. Those kites pump up fast. I have to use a 15m. So it requires a little more pumping. While every body is out on the water, I'm still pumping. I just want to pump fast and go play. Not winning, just hoping that there was a taller pump for not much money. I'm new to the sport, I won't disagree. Just no dealer locally. So I hope for feedback from guys on the NWK who have more experience. Hey If I have to use my little pump for the rest of my life, than so be it.

oh you Barfly

You probably remember the days before kites had these giant pumps they now come with

could anyone post a pic for frenchy of the only kite pumps that came with the
early new kites
they wouldn't hurt your back because you had to sit while pumping
about a four inch stroke and a 3 inch diameter

My pal makes and sells a hand held raft pump
he makes it out of pvc pipe and it is bombproof (it's why it sells)
so if he can do it so can you,

just get some bigger pipe 4"X however tall you want
some flapper valves you can make out of a coffee can plastic or?
an "O" ring
a piston
a rod with a handle
put the o ring around your piston ,screw the handle into the piston
and vio'la
a custom pump

it puts the lotion on the skin or it gets the hose Wink

Blowhard, since when do you use a manual pump? Don't you always use a homemade car battery powered sort of deal? I was thinking you'd chime in with instructions on how to make one of those things.

If it's windy enough (in other words, if the kiting is really fun) then everyone is on 9's or smaller. I'm on a 5 a whole bunch, it pumps out easy.

For that matter, Blowhard isn't a small person and he's on a 5 a bunch as well. I think he'd fly a 3 if they made one.

Also, please stop quoting "Silence of the Lambs" as I watched that movie 15 years ago and just recently stopped having nightmares.
