Mon Jan 19, 09 2:57 pm To Dangle or to Wake! That is the question... |
|
|
Forrest, rather than responding on the other thread, I decided to create this thread to address the heresy.
Although setting on podiums is NOT the only way to measure STYLE, it is however a good measurement for what is judged to be stylish and what actually gets points on the board to do well in comps. Some never enter comps! They instead, like to keep it real to themselves and the sport inwhich is noble and worthy of recognition. However......
All three of you guys are friends of mine and I am not here at all to throw mud. I have just seen too many comments on this forum that depict danglers as individuals that are not skilled. I truly understand and respect through a hell of a lot of training that wake and sliding is tough and deserves it’s just credit. Dylan, Ian, Nate and yourself as well as many other NWkite’ster's are very good at that type of riding and I respect you all. But let’s be honest, powered dangle moves are worthy of praise as well and deserve credit. It’s just a different type of skill level.
How do you think Ruben would respond to this thread? Would love to hear some input from him or others that do powered dangle moves…. Not just talking about a 20 foot jump with a board grab….. Look at that picture of Brad Gordon just dangling above the trees in the snowkiting shot of Jim Stringfellows post….. Would you call that un-style’ish? Or "the opposite of"!......
See you all soon Forrest and Good winds to you my kiting brothren...

That's the right attitude. And words of wisdom to live by.

Yes! I love stirring up trouble!
Nate's been assaulted first hand by my dangly style so I'm pretty sure he knew my comment was facetious. I think he was just promoting me for president because he was impressed by all the stylish dangling in my vid.
Now if the TROLL had the hang times of Alex Peterson...that would be some serious f'in style!

jus ride how you like. you shouldn't care what anyone thinks as long as you feel good.
there is nothing wrong with a stylish dangle. or a non stylish one.
wakestyle is just more technical, which is why most of us that do it are into it.
you are going faster which makes it more of a rush
we just ride the way we want. we don't care what anyone thinks.
which leads me to this topic---
someone on here was bitchin about not riding the sliders cause they feel like the style police are gonna give some stink. nobody cares about your style as a beginner.
i like to see people kook out and crash, it is fun and funny. but when you show up and are in the way and can't figure out the rotation, or crash every try when 10 riders are sessioning something----that is when you will get the stink. If you are a beginner, ask someone, watch, til you figure it out. if you crash a lot, session the sliders while not many riders are there. who cares whether you have good style or not---just have fun, don't get hurt, and respect gets respect.

You mean different type of skill (not skill level) right?
cause that would denote that one style is better than another.....
just ride how you want and don't hate (positive vibrations mon!)

Forrest, Forrest, Forrest!... In that case I will have to retaliate with a non-technical , super slow moving dangle move.... Slither, I think I'm stirring the pot..

This whole post is fascinating - seriously - a demonstration of a piece of human nature.
Just about every activity/hobby I have there are always sub-categories and one group claims their style is better than the other style. Kiteboarding - danglers vs. wake. Mountain Biking - x-country v. Downhill. Surfing - long v. short boards. Snowboarding - downhill v. park. Martial arts - strikers v. grapplers. Even Salsa Dancing - there is a rift in the community that is divided based upon which beat you start on - the first (L.A. Style) or the second (N.Y. Style).
It just really seems that wherever you go people have a need to identify with a certain group - and some take it even farther and have a need to claim that their style is better than the rest. When wake style gets big enough I can pretty much guarantee that there will be splinter groups that form within the wake style community and one of the splinter groups will lay claim to having the better wake style.
The bottom line - do whatever gets your rocks off. Everyone got into kiteboarding for different reasons. Some of us got into it because of the huge air that we saw. Some of us are water people and simply love being in the water. Some were skaters and thought that hitting rails would be the shit. Others are surfers and wakeboarders that saw a lot potential with the power of the kite. Kiteboarding has many aspects and different people are going to enjoy different parts of it.
There are always going to be splinter groups and there will always be people who claim their style is better - no matter where you go. Just do what you like.
As for myself - I see kiteboarding as an open field with a lot of variety - sort of like women. Seriously, some people like brunettes, some like blondes, some like redheads, some like em tall, short, skinny, thick, dark, light, and some people like myself like em all. Some guys are totally into one type (cus thats what gets their rocks off), others like myself think doing them all is a good idea!!

Terremoto, I totally agree and think it's funny when I read threads here and the Wake boys all think it's their style is by far the best and slam the danglers. Personally I've seen the original Dangler at Rufus putting on some super styles.. That old boy rips!
We all know it's just all about getting out there with the buds and having a blast. That's what got me into it from the begining. Just having some fun with it... Sure it will fall to the bottom soon..

y'all stir the pot while i throw in some pepper and hot sauce
Busted bladder writing this for the purpose of stirring the pot=dip shit
the fact that he put a weak dangle shot(no grab-legs straight WTF kinda style is that) on this post to irritate forrest=asshole
making the statement that the dangler has super style=possible mild retardation
(the dangler is cool but he has old windsurfer style)
you ask what we think--we tell you to do what you like--and you still stir the pot=bored
this seems to be the 2nd or 3rd post with this type of topic----what is with all the danglers needing the acceptance of wakestylers? are you THAT insecure with your style? we don't care what others think of our style, why should you? just do what you like.
the funniest part about the whole thing is that anyone in our crew(wake crew)could dangle with more style and power than him.
dude you are obviously bored, i am too(that is why i am typing)so just go stroke it to some dangle videos to release that pinned up tension
by the way, the podium stands for consistency. freeriding stands for pushing the limits
now let it fall to the bottom

It's not that we think our style is better than yours. It's that we know what style is and we strive for it cause that's what's fun for us. It's all based on surfing, skateboarding, snowboarding, and other board sports that had their phases of illegitimacy. Just remember: "Rollerbladers of the Ocean"
It's all tonge-in-cheek anyway, don't take it to seriously.
