I am having trouble slipping out of my 2005 SX stock pads when jumping. What kinds of pads do you guys like that might eliminate this problem? Thanks _________________ Thanks for your reply |

although I get accused of playing the other side of the fence from time to time. I bought a pair of dakine raptor heel straps. never looked back, your feet do NOT slip out of those things.
helped my riding out allot. |

Second vote for the Raptor heelstraps. I once had a guy tell me I should get rid of them, 'cause they were dangerous. Bottom line is, whatever works for you. I never felt very secure with the regular straps, being used to being strapped in on a wakeboard, so I went with the Raptors. A little harder to get into, but a much more secure feel for me.
As with anything, find what works for you. Don't let anyone tell you "what is right" or what is "cool". It's about what works best for your riding, and what you enjoy. That's it. |

I was a fan of the Dakine Heal straps until that Chinese guy Jeff Tackoshema called them training wheels. I took them off and put them in his kids car seat
After that I started using the NSI double Stuff Pads.
They rock!
They are supper comfy
They have an arch support
They stick to my feet.
I have tried every type of strap system out there the only one that has worked for me are the Double Stuff.......Thanks Hein for a great product.
If you try them you wont go back to anything else.
Oh did I mention that they are nice on the knees. |

I second the motion, if the court approves, of praising the NSI pads. I recently installed the new pads and Protoy ratchet straps on my Litewave FS II, and am amazed at the comfort and performance. I second guessed myself at spending the $$$ for these, but would do it again in a heartbeat. |

bindings are a good choice
longer entry and exit time, but edge control makes up for that
also cuts down on time dragging back to your board
only down side: can't do board-off tricks |

Try flipping your straps, putting the wide/adjustable side
toward the outside of your foot.
Depending how big your feet are, you can pick holes on the straps
which allow you to make a proper size and keep the adjustable side
pulled down close to the pad, so you don't push against an uncomfortable
gap, on the outside of the strap
I still ride 2005 straps, which were narrower, which I like, since I have about 8.5 feet.
I met another rider who also prefers his straps that way, and I think he has closer
to size 11.
The benefit is, you can duck your feet while stuck in the straps, giving you
a better and better locked in feel, depending on how secure you want it.
It also allows you bail out, when you know things are really going wrong.
I never could get a good feel with the "wider cuff" type foot straps,
I could get a tight fit, but my feet would cramp up, and trying to lock
in was more fatiguing, due to resistance to twisting my feet in the "wider cuff"s
I used heel straps a couple of times, but during a crash and drag, one stretched and my foot came out and got stuck between the strap and the board.
Technology may have gotten better, but I think the alternative is superior.
I know I know, 04 board and pads, but the straps are 05.
I'm a firm believer that the straps are the key to connecting with
the board. |

I use the dakine raptor heal straps - love em - I only slip out when I compeltely wipe out.
You could also try flipping the straps around - play with it and see what you can come up with - try tightening them up - maybe looser even if you can jam your foot in there a little more. _________________ Still rockin gojos, *ssless chaps, and ankle weights! |

I've got both the Hein/NSI doublestuff pads and the LF luxury pads. Both are WAY better than the '05 SX pads.
On the double stuff pads, run the straps looser than you think you need to. They grip really well with surprisingly little tension on the strap. They're very comfortable too, as long as you don't over tighten the straps.
Nothing is more comfortable than the LF Luxury pads. Not quite as much control as the double stuff, at least for me. Still a lot more than the '05s. I can ride for hours on these with absolutely no discomfort in my feet.
Both pads eliminated the back pain I was getting after boosting. It was bad enough that I was missing out on sessions earlier in the Summer. The stock pads I was using before simply did not absorb any of the shock of landing. Maybe not a big deal for someone younger than 40, but a f*^%ing miracle for me! I highly recommend both pads. |

I use pads that have an up section at the toe (Da kine somethings)
I leave my straps loose enough so that I can hold the board
with my toes curled downward over the front of the pad and arch my foot
but I ride far over on the toeside and move around some
I ride like this for safety
1st for the one foot out and wave twisting the leg thingy
2nd so I can swim asap
Never tried boots or heel straps
never wanted the board to stay on that bad
just ride waves (mostly strapless unless unsurfable)
oh ya,,
I permantly fukked up one of my toenails early on from too tight of straps

The problem might be technique rather than equipment.
Make sure you're properly loading on your edge and popping. Think about how a skimboard gets suction cupped to the sand when it's flat on the skim water. Same thing happens to your board when you're being lifted by your kite. If you don't have it on it's edge and aren't' loading and popping properly, it will suction-cup to the water and you'll fly out of your straps. Usually it's just your back foot that flies out. |

exactly what i was thinking, i use to have problems losing my board throwing a railey, when i would whip my feet up over my head. instead of wasting money on heel/raptor straps or whatever you want to call them, i just spent some time learning how to load and pop and this problem of board slippage is a thing of hte past. |

I would find that my feet mostly slipped out when I landed, not when taking off. All feet are very different. I have very large feet and a VERY high arch. So high that I have a hard time staying in almost all foot pads without something else. And I have ridden a fair amount of pads..
03 SX, 06 SX, liquid force luxries, 04 caution redline pads, stock Jimmy Lewis pads, SS fuse pads (ugghh, talk about a shitty pad), dakine double stuffs, and the closest to the best fit I have found, the crazy fly pads.
If I walk across pavement with wet feet the only mark I leave is a little heel, toe prints, and a little tiny slice of arch. So don't be surprised if the suggestions here don't work. |

I swapped my SX pads out for the LF luxuries. I enjoyed riding these on Liquid Force boards when I was in SPI. Haven't ridden them on the SX yet (just installed them; 2nd Wind has some great deals) but I also don't throw big airs just yet so listen to the other experts here. Thanks monkeyboy for the heads up about crazy fly as I also have a very high arch, though haven't quite noted the specific imprint of my wet tootsies... |
