I was passing by some of you on the columbia River and stopped to take some photos. I am not a professional photographer but I think some of the photos are good. I have posted over 200 of them at www.nwgr.com/kites. Am interested in hearing some comments on the photos. Let me know if you like 'em. Thanks,

Right on Dan! Fun picks. You'll find no shortage of willing talent (hams) any windy day at Reeder Beach...I sure you could sell a pic or 2 if you wanted to!
Thumb's Up

Appreciate the response. I am going to try taking some more today now that I have a little better idea what to look for. I'm a little scared to be out in the middle of things as I DON'T WANT TO GET IN ANYONE'S WAY. I also don't want to make any $$ off the pics. Getting to see your skills is all I need. It is like I'm getting a front row seat for free! THANKS TO ALL WHO SHOWED THEIR SKILLS! I'll post more photos soon.

I wouldn't worry about being in the way. kiters are suckers for photographers.
probably just don't take it personally if someone asks you to move (hopefully it won't be rude, but its tough sharing the water). just smile and oblige. Sounds like that's your attitude anyway, so folks will catch on quick. Nice pics, btw.
Also there's a lot of talent pro and amature photographers that post on the site, look around and see what others are doing. thanks for sharing.

Kyle's right...if you have a camera you will never be in the way. Just keep an eye out for kites hitting you when the kiters crash Laughing

Photos look great

It's hard not to be offended by the comment but I'm a big boy so I can take it. I never knew your website existed before I happened on Reeder Beach so had nothing to gauge things from in advance. After I took them I looked at some of the pics on your website and thought some of mine were as good as some of the ones on your website. Like I said, it was the first time I have ever shot that kind of action. It took me several years before I was able to take good photos of bald eagles so I thought I'd try this some more but if pics are offensive/lame then sorry to waste anyone's time. Will not bother you with any more and thanks for taking the time to let me know.

don't listen to her, she's impersonating Bush 1!
keep snapping pics of kiters and posting, they'll improve. some people will probably give you some good advice too.
Here's some (might not be good though).
Try to capture the kiter and the water, or the kiter and the kite, or all three. Tricky, but makes the shot better.
Thanks for posting.

Easy language comes with the sport. Hang around here for a while and you will understand. holly meant no offense.

As to your photos, I like how you captured kiteboarder's face (we see plenty of butt dangling behind the board here). But I think subject placement is uninteresting. Try to experiment with cropping, like examples of first two pictures below. As for the third shot, well, like holly said, it is lame. (Now I'm ducking for cover).

Hey, everyone's got to start somewhere. "should" implies judgment. poor word choice. But I hope the constructive criticism that was offered helps your action photography interest.

Yo, hdhookenhiemer,

Cool shots.

I think Holly is comparing your photos to the ones we've been REALLY spoiled with this year on nwKite.com. Henry Rico's shots are absolutely phenomenal. And that new guy, Tony is beginning to get some great ones as well.

Hang in there, big guy, and keep shootin'. Any and every pics you post here are very muchly appreciated by all posters (not posers), and I'm sure Holly agrees.

One thing that would improve your style tremendously, is to take more shots of that guy out there on the blue, black, and gray foil, preferably not when bowtied Embarassed . What a treat that would be for everyone, of this I am certain, am I right PMB? Laughing

Yeah we're getting spoiled with all the SLRs and semi-pro photogs.

But I am still stoked to see photos no matter what so keep em coming.
