The poll was not a hoax. I was surprised to hear the outcome.
We have to figure out how best to lobby for opening early for the earlybirds.
Especially the season pass holder.

some of last years luv....

They could open at noon for all I care as long as the figure out how to keep the best terrain open at that stink hole. Every time there is epic snow, you can't find anyplace steep enough to really open up and shred.

I'll take the 3 hour drive and backside of bachelor any day over staring at the heather canyon closed signs....

Whether they open at 7 or open at 9, first tracks are first tracks doesn't matter when they open the lifts...

Their goal with the new gun is to get heather open at 9am --or closest to that.
Even when it doesn't open right away-- it will be much quicker.
No 10-11-12-1 maybe crap.

My biggest gripe is that I have been up there many a time and they never opened upper heather at all. Its got slide potential sure, but not THAT much. Sometimes the ski patrol acts like upper heather is the knarliest of narl and they would never even think of opening it up until conditions are absolutely perfect.

Lower heather can be cool but the steep stuff is over before you know it.

it seems like the really dry years "our" storms end up in CA instead. pretty sure 00-01 and 04-05 were dry here but wet down there, esp in SoCal.

04-05 was the last year I bought a Meadows pass. By mid-December I was bored out of my skull waiting and my buddy in Houston bought a condo on SPI, so I flew down there for a week. Got some decent wind at the beginning but then it turned north and just got colder and colder and windier and windier. By the time I left it was 29 degrees with the wind chill, gusting to 60, and had snowed 5 inches!

Yeah, it's odd, some years you've just got to head south for good snow.

Have to agree with the backside of Bachelor comment. I've always admired the lines that you can see on the Sisters and Brokentop looking north from Bachelor. Anyone have any ideas on how to access the goods without a sled?

buddy of mine who has lived here for 20+ years says he remembers more moisture in the late eighties-early nineties....

You guys should have been here in the 70's!
Epic snows and tons of snow downtown HR for weeks at a time.
Back side of Bach is great but there are as many problems getting those chairs running as Meadows has getting Heather open. Bach locals complain more than Meadows locals so the grass is greener theory lives at both mountains. All us old timers gotta remind you - be patient, it'll come and it's a long season! We still get powder in April at both mountains!
Hope ya'll have a great winter with plenty of face shots!

If you guys are jonesing for some sessions then you should come up here to Seattle and ride the Puget sound southerlies, we have been getting 2-3 days a week since mid september. Winter kiting up here is not light wind by any means either! Or another sweet spot that we head to alot is Damon point on the coast by ocean shores. This spot has some killer flat water too.

Thanks for the offer, but if you look closely you'll notice that we've been hitting the Gorge and coast plenty of times ourselves. I've gotten 3 sessions in the past 8 days or so and attempted 1 yesterday that I'm not counting. (And that's not even counting the 2 winching sessions). Glad you guys are hitting it hard too Thumb's Up

Yeah - some of us are just too lazy to get a decent winter wetsuit or a dry suit. So this cold weather kiting is off limits until then. Nobody wants a frozen carcus floating around the columbia river.

Meadows is saying that if the storm is strong enough they may be open on a limited basis this weekend!! If not - then it definately sounds like its on next weekend. Well have to wait and see.
