Learning to windsurf is way harder to learn than Kitesurfing, or should I say sailboarding is harder to learn than Kiteboarding, way harder.
But in the end if you are out on the water with a smile, its all good! Cool

I agree that windplanking is harder to learn than kiteboarding.

I compare it to snowboarding and skiing. Harder to ride a snowboard, easier to get very good at riding it once you figure it out. Easier to ride skis, harder to get very good at riding them once you figure it out.

You can hop on a windsurfer and be windsurfing, but to become good it takes more effort. Need to learn to ride the board and fly the kite for kiting, but once you figure it out you progress faster.

But still this fact has nothing to do with my argument that windsurfing is sailing and not a boardsport.

Which is why many original windsurf shops had the word "Boardsports" in their name... Wink

I usually refrain from stirring the pot, but Inept, its all about degrees... some 70 year old going to the hook on the biggest, widest board he can find, putting around with a little sail is a far cry from someone out at 3 mile in huge swell on a 70 liter "sinker". I think from your posts you show your ignorance about windsurfing, and I don't mean that offensively, you just don't know. When the board gets small enough in windsurfing, it lacks sufficient volume to float you, if you stand on it when its not moving. You must water start, and keep your forward momentum in order to stay on top of the board and sail it. This takes a lot practice, and good balance and has about as much in common with sailing a boat as kiting. The advantage of these small boards is that they are highly maneuverable, allowing you to jump waves, & carve on the swell using foot pressure on the rails of the board to edge in and turn aggressively. The balance required to do this should not be under-estimated... the windsurfer must balance not only his or her body weight, but the pull of the sail and the pressure it creates on the board, all at the same time, with constant change in a constantly changing environment.

The real question here is why are you so threatened by the sport? Calling it childish names just shows your own insecurity, and the fact that you're investing such effort to deride the sport or get a consensus of what it isn't shows you're just attacking that which you don't know and/or understand. Windsurfers share the water with us, as do many different types of sports enthusiasts who enjoy the river. Why work so hard to rain on their stoke? Go find your own, get a sesh in and quit worrying about things that you obviously have little to no knowledge about.

Does riding down grassy/sandy hills on a pizza box count as a board sport?
