temps in the 50's in the valley, no pressure differential and the west wind currently flowing is weak. Good weekend to hit the backcountry AT-style.

Hold out for the crowds next week, there's always wind during Kite Soldiers.....

Head up Soldier Mtn road, to the end, take a left up the ridge (skinning is easiest) or better yet take the lift to the summit and start from there.

Once at 7,600 the chutes/bowls fan out in every conceivable direction--best bet is to ride NE facing slopes less than 35* due to severe avy conditions this year.

From top of 2nd lift, you can ski right down the Cattrack (normally used for Cat skiing access, but not in operation this year b/c of the fire) and access Smokey Butte bowls and chutes.

Most are SE facing, so hit 'em early or be prepared for sizable slides! If you have a sled, take the Pine Turnoff road and head into the Trinity Mtns for some Utah-like POW.

Worse case scenario pick a roller on a POW slope, build a booter aways uphill and send it.
