Hello everyone,

Thank you for being so very patient as Dave and I have been trying to work on several things for the volunteers and food for the athletes. Dave took all of my concerns and suggestions to heart, and utilized his strong connections within the kiting community and we are happy to say our kiting peeps will be taken care of;-) We understand that volunteering is a huge deal for people, and with that wanted to ensure that there would be little or no financial burden to our volunteers for this event.

My main concerns for the athletes were:
*Lunch
*Food throughout the day

My main concerns for the volunteers have been:
*Camping
*Free Parking
*Lunch
*Food throughout the day
*Training for the volunteers
*Hydration for the volunteers
*T-Shirts for the volunteers - obtaining more than one if you are working multiple days.
*Passes to Athlete's Village for the volunteers
*Get together for the athletes and volunteers (meet and greet)

Historically, the Gorge Games has not provided food for the athletes, and this year they asked all the Sports Directors if food was needed, and they all agreed it never was before so no need now. With that, the athletes needed to bring their own food.

Now for the great news!!!!!!!!!!!!

The athletes will be receiving lunch each day of the competition. Plus, they will be receiving the triathalon food the runners did not need (we are all about taking what others don't want;-)) Anything else that has to do with the athletes is where Dave is working, so please direct questions to him.

OK, for the volunteers:
*Camping - you will still need to go through Cascade or stay with locals, we were not able to secure free camping. But there were plenty of options through Cascade. However, if you are car camping and still need assistance PM me.
***Just received a phone call that we have secured FREE CAMPING for the VOLUNTEERS. If you still need camping space, please pm or e-mail me ASAP! It's near the event site!***
*Free Parking - You will have free parking. We were able to work something out with some private properties for the kiting volunteers! This information will be provided to volunteers under separate cover.
*Lunch - you will be receiving lunch each day of the competition.
*Food throughout the day - We are working on securing a sponsor who would be willing to provide us with some funds to have snacks, breakfast items, etc., each day of the competition. Stay Tuned!
*Training for the volunteers - We are looking at about 6pm on Wednesday evening, either at the volunteer/check-in tent unless they are two separate tents. Still TBD. Another one on Friday evening about 6pm at Windance. I am also awaiting a training packet to send out to everyone from the GG directors.
*Hydration for the volunteers - There will be Gorge Games brand water for everyone throughout the day.
*T-Shirts for the volunteers - obtaining more than one if you are working multiple days. - Still waiting on a response for this one. You will receive one at volunteer check-in the evening before the event.
*Passes to Athlete's Village for the volunteers - Still verifying. Was told you will receive an all day pass if you work a 4 hour shift. If you work a double, or both days, you will receive an all weekend pass, but I'm still waiting for this to be verified. These will be provided upon volunteer check-in. Stay tuned.
*Get together for the athletes and volunteers only (meet and greet)- Well a place has been secured, food is being provided, and we are trying to get a beer sponsor. This will tentatively be Wednesday evening 6-9pm or 7-10pm. Stay Tuned for further details.
*Swag Bags and Volunteer bracelets - These will also be provided at the volunteer check-in. Location TBD.

Whenever you see Dave Tyberski, please let him know how much you appreciate everything he's been doing. He's totally taken action on everything we've discussed!

I'm also hoping to obtain stickers from each of the sponsors so that we can give them to the volunteers and others and place them on our kiting stuff, vehicles, wherever to show our support!

That's the latest and greatest, I will be sending out an e-mail to all the volunteers tomorrow with further information for all.

Oh, darn a couple other things:
About the photographers. Due to the fact that this is a huge event, with media sponsors and the like, you are required to have a camera pass, and you will need to surrender your photographs. I have not received a response back as to whether you will be credited or compensated if your photos were to be published. However, please contact Nate Burch @ nburch@gorgegames.net, and he has stated to me he will answer all your questions.

Spit Parking: The spit will still be open to kiters, and your pass will still be honored by the port just as it always is. However, please know that others from the Gorge Games such as spectators or even people wanting to just sight see may also park there that day. There is not going to be someone necessarily policing to see if you are a kiter to park at the spit. So, just know that parking may be tricky during the Gorge Games. Also, the pylon at the spit, and west of that will be marked off, and then into the channel, and at times across the channel to the bridge will be marked off. So, you may want to kite at another place during that weekend, or enusre you are kiting East of the pylon as to not get in the way of the compeitors. There will be fencing and then buoys marking off the courses during the games for each of the sports.

I think I covered everything, but in case I did not, let me know.

Thanks again and have a wonderful evening,
Janet (boarderchick)

Here's the response I received from Nate regarding crediting the photographers if their photos are used, and payment for the photos.

Nate stated: The photographs we use will credit the photographers who take them. We don’t pay the photographers for the photos but ask for the photos to be released to us in return for granting them access to restricted areas.

Stringy man,

Thanks for all your help trying to get the Seattle crew to volunteer. We've got a few and with your kids the stringy family will be taking over;-) You rock man.

See you in a couple days!

We have 45 volunteers and counting, thank goodness because we need them...

is this for real? you are going to try to close off the river upwind of the spit???

how is this going to be done? is there going to be room to get through all this crap near the washington side?

doesn't the course racing only last for an hour or so?

the windsurfers have held their racing national championship (far more real and competitive than the niche new sport of kite racing) at the event site and never tried to close off the river...

i can only assume the description below is some sort of twisted exaggeration.

Gabe,
I am not sure what you mean by "you" are trying to close off the river upwind of the spit. Janet is simply trying to relay information from the gorge games, and is the volunteer coordinator. She has nothing to do with the logistics of what gets closed off or where they put up borders.

The games went off great today. There was tons of stoke on the beach, and the races where awesome. No one "closed" off the river upwind of the spit, but there are clearly marked areas when the course race and freestyle events where going and it would certainly be courteous to avoid those areas.
