Does anyone have experience sewing ripstop?
I'd appreciate any hints you may have.

Related, I just noticed several small abrasion holes in my 07 Rebel. I would like to repair these minor problems myself, and I'd like to more or less match the color. Anyone have experience with something like this? I would stick this on, then follow with a zig-zag stitch.

PS, I've read that dental floss make a great thread, not sure how it would go through a machine. _________________ CGKA Member

I have an experience with AIRTIME KITE. And would recommend going there first. Then go to mom's sewing machine. _________________ I stretch my wings and pull the strings |

My wife has sewn all my rips an tears including leading edges
just mate the pieces together and back it with a piece of ripstop
and zig-zag it
The more holes you put in it the weaker it is
It's pretty easy and fast
Don't use anything with glue to back it and then try to sew it the glue will gum up the needle
No failures so far and some hand stitched too (waroo)
Use polyester thread and the sun won't wear it out |

Thanks comrads.
Aprecitated.
Very helpful.
I've heard dabond V-30 polyester thread(bonded) is the kind to use (also at sailrite).
When my mom past away last July, I inherited her nice sewing machine. I'll practice some 3 stitch zig-zag on some scrap ripstop before I tackle the bad-boy.

Try some Tear-Aid. It is clear and is easy to use. I use coins to trace around for nice round corners. I have never had a failure with it. I have not used it on leading edges, but I have used it on canopy tears as wells as bladder repairs. Let me know if you need some, I bought a roll of it a few years back.

when i patch with tear-aid, i picture-frame the edges with a fine coat of aqua-seal, which helps to keep out the sand that creaps (creeps?) under the most carefully applied T-A patch, lasts a long time, i have some repairs on my trust 11m sonic '06 that are nearly perfect still.
very nervous about punching holes in ripstop-in the end, unless you are perfect in passing thread through the same needle holes as in the original seam, you end up weakening the fabric.
