now that's a timber rattler
they can be quite a bit darker on the westside also .
I lived in Yoncalla for a couple years and it was infested with rattlers
we had a couple in an aquarium
trying to feed them mice
Didn't work and some friends said if we didn't get rid of them they wouldn't come over anymore .
I didn't mind handling them but
When I chopped the head off ,
I picked up the body and the bloody stub came around and struck my arm
now that was too much!

Is this where you launch at Prineville Reservoir, by the State park parking lot?

| Although there are Tons of rattlers out there, that variety is a common gopher snake I'm positive. The rattler has a diamond-shaped head. Thanks for the heads up!

| Just enough wind for a little skiting around 6. A local paraglider stopped by and gave me some info on weather resources for central oregon. They have some on their website . http://desertairriders.org/index.html and also gave me a phone number for up to date wind at the airport- 504.8743

Nice. How was the water temp?
I'm pretty sure that is a bull snake which I is another name for the gopher snake. They will actually coil up and mimic a rattler. I had to wrangle one into the weeds the other day before my cat found it. The little bugger was hissing and striking at me. They are harmless.

my bad,
the color threw me off
P High,
when you have to ,you do
the one that was in the aquarium
was formerly in the house
his pal was in the garden
just pick them up behind the head
right behind
rattlers are pretty noisy
unless it's late summer when they shed
