Definately a mixed bag weekend on the Northern Strip. Saturday, Seaside was the big winner with sun all day and great SW's in the afternoon. Yesterday there were some fun little waves out front for surfing and I got to try out Stand-up paddle boarding for the first time.....or in my case, "fall down paddle boarding". I definately have a new found respect for that video of Laird. Unreal!

Anyone else notice a BIG water temp drop on the north coast between Saturday and Monday? I'd swear it was 10 degrees colder in pacific city on Monday than it was up by the jetty on Saturday.

I've noticed big water temp changes over short time periods before. I'd always thought the ocean temps were pretty stable and slow to change, but I don't think that's right anymore.

It must have something to do with currents changing around or something, coz I don't think anything could possibly heat up or chill down the ocean within a couple of days like that.

Wasn't at the coast this past weekend, but the currents and swell have a lot to do with the temps. For example a SW swell can bring some warmer water with it and then strong NW wind and swell can turn that all around in a couple days and make it colder again. At least I've noticed this behavior in the past. Not sure if I'm explaining all the details properly though.

The north wind creates upwelling due to something called ekman transport. I would also imagine that all the run off has also effected coastal water temperatures.

Yeah, nice pics, dudes.

I'm still nursing my board jammed shins from my last encounter with the sea.

Looks like a blast.

Any hints on getting going. I mean what is the water doing (current direction) and how deep in the water are you when getting up on the board?

Except when at Sauvies and the wind is light, then all pumpies are restricted to beach and must be forced to watch the guy on the foil have a great time, whether they like it or not.

Oh, by the way, that first photo.....Is that a foil? Laughing
