Fri May 16, 2008 9:11 am Coming up in Aug. to NW, weather questions? |
|
|
Hello all,
My name is steveo
ill be roaming the NW for a few months on vacation, wondering:
what the conditions are like aug. through november in different key locations in the NW?
where would be the best places to ride? I don't want any trouble with law or locals otherwise.
I am an advanced, self sufficient, safe rider and would love to ride with some serious rippers. |

Hey man
I'm kindof a outsider too. I live up toward seattle and travel down to the gorge during the summer months. I think that you'll find ass hole everywhere you go in life, but in general everyone in the gorge is nice and there doesn't seem to be any localism that I have found. In the five years of wondering around, I have met one guy that bummed me out. Thats really it. As for places to ride in the gorge, I will have to defer to others for that. But I like to ride in stevenson, lyle and rufus. The coast fires up then too. Super rad! The gorge has plenty to do besides kite too, like fishing, mt biking, there are Hangliders and Parasailers, rock climbers and all sorts of nice people and places to eat. Have fun up here. Talk to you soon. Hope to meet you. I'm sure that others will chime in. |

the gorge is such a playground that there is almost always someplace going off. Stevenson, sand bar, Lyle, and Rufus are popular places. In october and november, Rooster rock is definitely the place to be.
With steady wind in the 30's and gusts in the low 40's, you better have a 7m in your arsenal.
You can leave your big kites at home..bring a surfboard for the coast instead. |

To be safe you'd probably want a 4/3 (in case you have to float for a while). If you stay near shore and don't fall too much though the 3/2 will feel warm enough when you're up and riding. Most people use 4/3 or 5/3 I think at the coast.
10m might be kind of big as the only kite for the gorge depending on what kind of kite it is. Since winds in the 20-40+mph range are pretty common. _________________ The Slider Project, LLC

Yeah, I'm sure you know more about high winds then us in the Gorge. Should be fun to watch. |
