Stevenson and HR are starting to show weak easterlies.
Any veterans care to predict what might go down this fri/sat with the hot weather? Just curious if there's any pattern, I've never been in 90 degree weather in PDX, actually, only been here 9 months. |

I'd say 50/50 chance weak easterlies or strong easterlies Thurs-Friday. If weak easterlies it could be good for Sauvies, and definitely good for the coast.
If strong easterlies Rooster will go off, too bad working guys like me will miss it as almost always dies early.
This working stiff is hoping for some Sauvies goodness Thursday  |

| Its going to rip here at the coast tomorrow (25-30 predicted) and Friday with pumping big swell too. Unfortunately I've got meetings in the valley and won't get back until 5 or so, but if there's any takers, you're going to have some heavy rides. Maybe see you for the late sesh. |

Me thinks Sauvies on Thursday will be NNE 10-15 G21 1/3 mph .

Here's what the experts say... (sorry Forest) I'll pick up trash at Lyle as pennance.
Extended Forecast
Columbia River forecast issued 5/14/2008 at 7:00 AM by meteorologist George McLean
East wind develops on Thursday in the 14-18 range. East wind 18-22 Friday. West wind 14-18 Saturday. Coastal NW strong Thursday. West 19-23 Saturday at Jones Beach.
Weak offshore flow develops on Thursday under a strong ridge. Stevenson east in the 14-18 range with lighter wind in the Central and Eastern Gorge. On Friday east wind in the 18-22 range at Stevenson, decreasing in the afternoon. Light west wind returns by Saturday evening. Jones Beach should be 19-23 Saturday afternoon. Coastal sites are NW and strong on Thursday but light Friday and Saturday.
Thursday:
The ridge builds over the region and a thermal trough develops along the coast. This sets up easterly gradients in The Gorge by afternoon. Stevenson and Rooster Rock should be easterly in the 14-18 range by afternoon. Central and Eastern Gorge sites look light. Jones Beach looks light as well. Sauvies NE 8-12 and gusty. Coastal sites look strong. NW wind 18-22 on the North Coast. NW 22-26 at Manzanita. NW 20-24 Central Coast. NW 22-26 with south coast with 24-28 south of Cape Blanco. West swell 6 feet at 12 seconds.
Friday:
The thermal trough builds north over the region and coastal gradients weaken. Gorge gradients should still be easterly . Stevenson and Rooster Rock east in the 18-22 range in the morning then weak by afternoon. Central and Eastern Gorge sites look light. Jones Beach looks light. Sauvies NE 9-13 but gusty. Coastal sites look light with south wind developing on the south coast in the 8-12 range and light wind on the North Coast. West swell 9 feet.
Saturday:
Onshore gradients start to develop as the thermal trough shifts inland. Gorge gradients should be easterly early then west by evening. East wind early in the 14-18 range becomes west 14-18 by evening at Stevenson. Central Gorge sites west14-18 by evening. Eastern Gorge sites light. Jones Beach west 19-23 late in the day. Sauvies NW 11-15. Light SW wind along the coast in the 10-14 range. West swell 7 feet.
Looks like Saturday is shaping up for a decent afternoon sesh at Lyle whilst doing your part to make the world a better place and build the kiteboard community's image and then late afternoon Sauvie island beer gulp and 11m REV/ surfboard sesh. |

They're still calling for Westerlies in the central corridor for Saturday afternoon. Not too strong, but looks to definitely be kiteable if the stars are all in alignment.
This way to big of a weekend to pass up on:
Friday - Brave Dave's Party
Sat-Sun - Nobile and Royal demos at the Sandbar
Saturday - CGKA Lyle Cleanup
Saturday - 2nd Wind/Royal Kiteparty
Sunday - Swap meet (not to mention big hangover as well, which always brings in good wind).
The winds will blow, don't worry about that. What you really need to worry about is having the stamina to make it through the whole weekend.

| Depends on the skill level of your riding. Shipwreck (Ft Stevens) is always a good easy beach if you're a beginner. |
