This was in the Portland DJC newpaper today and is all I know. Anybody else heard about this?
Condos approved for Hood River
Portland developer Bob Naito has been given approval by the Hood River Planning Commission to build a 42-condominium project along the Hood River waterfront.
The project will be located at the former Nichols Boat Works site, located between the port-owned Spit road and a 76 station owned by Hattenhauer Distributing Co.
The project also includes the construction of two small beaches, pending approval of a permit by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The Oregon Department of Transportation has recommended that the road in front of the property be improved to a city standard street of 25 feet wide. The planning commission also required that 85 parking spaces be included on-site with subdued, artificial lighting and that a residential sprinkler system be installed in each unit.
Demo crews began tearing down the Nichols building last week and expect to be finished with the demo after one more week of work.

This may be beating a dead horse, but water quality in the basin is likely to be not so good at times... say hot summer days or after heavy rains.
One can imagine this as an additional excuse to dredge the channel (on top of whatever reason the Port gave for thier emergency request last winter).
Carol, do you know if there was any discussion on this by the Planning commision?

Of course you guys/ girls know this means no more walking out to the launch from the event site and instead having to swim it out , right?

If anyone can get ahold of a design plan or something similar it might be good. one thing to consider is that it actually might make the wind better, lol.
