Yeah, it'd be nuts if you could capture riding like that, but I don't think a 20-30" exposure is going to let ya... haha. Gotta have an ultra-powerful, short flash, but it'd probably ruin the shot.
Henry can do it!!!
Colby has a D300 too, right? I was looking at the specs of his pics and that's what it said. He could do it too. My cam sucks!

I've done some of this. It's not well suited for moving objects tho. V. cool effect. There are some fairly inexpensive programs (40 -100$) that help 'sandwich' the exposures together. K-dogg says they can shoot video HDR with computer driven camera movements - Maybe someday we'll see some HDR kite video?

Obviously mine are nothing by comparison, but these are all a few years old (not that they're any better today). lol

| Cool A - What program did you use on those. I expose +/- 3eV w/ tripod & process w/ cs3 and Photomatix.

I use Photoshop CS3 for a little color balance and levels... The aperature/exposure are manually set on the cam. Most of these are 20-30 seconds in ultra low light (especially the one of the coast - looks like day but it was almost pitch black). You can do some badass stuff with your D200 in full manual!
Definately time for a new still cam here!

| Yeah - cool stuff. I think our techniques are a little different. I expose one correct exposure, one exposure for the shadows and one for the highlights (3 exposures total, -3eV/0/+3eV). Then use Photomatix to 'sandwhich' the exposures together to increase the dynamic range of the photo. It is essential that the frames are identical, therefore a tripod is needed in this technique. This technique can give an expanded dynamic range comparable to B&W. Do you have all long exposures for the technique you use? How do you achieve the expanded tonal range? - C

Yeah, mine aren't true since I'm really only working with one image, but you can convert one or more layers to black and white, level each layer/channel individually, then stack. These were done quick, with only varying the overall opacity. You can get pretty decent results, deleting over/underexposed "areas" out.
Not really HDR, but it was broken down into 8 layers to tweak.

Hey Colby. I wish I could take credit for the photo's above, but they are not mine. Mine are on my home computer and not as nicely executed . Check out the guys ficker page. His name is Josh Sommers. Also check out his Droste effect work - it's real good stuff. I downloaded the software for Droste effect and produced a few images. Adam - check it out too, I think you'll like it - cool SS pic . - Chris ( Met you a few times Colby - last time may have been at bridal veil falls launch on a punchy day )

I really like the composition of this photo Adam. Great shot of Lyle! The camera doesn't make as much of a differance as a good eye does .
